A rant from Triple T I can appreciate!

I know I have posted a few times on how The Time Teller has become too strident for me to take on a regular basis, but I do occasionally click on a click bait title like this one: Dave Portnoy’s New Watch Company Might Be A BIG Mistake! Watch Dealer Explains. (Brick Watch Co).

I have to say that I agree with Triple T on this one; Dave Portnoy doesn't really seem to understand what he is trying to sell or who he is trying to sell it to.

I refuse to click on time teller videos on principle these days.  He's too yelly and I don't really trust anyone who sells watches and also reviews them.

That said, the prices on those Brick watch company watches are almost certainly Invicta style prices with deep discounting as of yet to be applied.  I'll save my outrage.

Nope. You got to watch this video. He's selling a Swiss quartz(same as in Invicta) chronograph for $2400. No discounts. He says it's for the guy who doesn't care about watches and has the money to spend on a Rolex. But don't want a Rolex. He calls people calling out the brand as watch hardos, and watch dorks. And we're not the target customer.

Anything Portnoy is involved in, I want no part of.

Targeting suckers is not the best business model.  You may quickly saturate that market while earning a bad reputation.

Portnoy did say the quiet part, that his intended market was people with more money than brains, loud. In this regard, he was being honest in making a watch for himself.

Let's be serious, if his target cust has the money, they're not buying a watch they've never heard of. If they have the money, they'll buy a name(i.e. Rolex or Omega). If they don't have the money, it will be cheap(i.e. Casio or Timex).

Almost every watch YouTuber is either directly selling watches or they do ex facto marketing for brands in exchange for episode cash sponserships or the very watches they review. Almost all of them have some sort of ulterior motive for the reviews they provide. Nothing new or unexpected.

It’s not so much that I actively want Portnoy to fail, though he is about as unlikable as any one person can be.

It’s just that I hope no one is enough of a rube that they buy one of those astoundingly stupid watches.
