Longines strikes me more as milspec watch of past generations than JLC, but I think the higher prestige of modern JLC skews my perception here.

Longines has the military history. I vote for them. JLC has been around for a while too though. During WWI and WWII both makers had some interesting chronographs. The only military models I find during this time period in my reference book are Longines. They made military pilot and field watches. I don't find any from JLC.
