Another man's watch...

Disclaimer; it's gonna be a long one, I think.

As a watch enthusiast, it's hard to just go about your day and not notice at least one nice watch on someone else's wrist... Well, at least if you work on the road with people at least sometimes.

So I've seen lots of wrists adorned with bricks (fashion watches) and I've seen some beauts.

I was getting my morning coffee a few weeks ago when I bumped into a guy named Sean (my names Dean) wearing an IWC Portoguiesr Flyback Chronograph summer edition.

My eyes lit up as if I was watching 4th of July fireworks and I couldn't help myself, gave him the compliment and uhh yeah you see a guy wearing something like that, you'd think he's a watch guy. What a frikken watch! Absolute beaut... He just went oh yeah, thanks. Pissed me the [redacted but rhymes with duck] off. I'm like is this man for real? That'd be such a cool piece. The dial's gorgeous, the case is a beaut! The pushers were so satisfying! I won't even mention the flyback, ughhhh...

Saw some other masterpieces, ran into my old college physics professor in the supermarket, he noticed mine and I noticed his.. mine, ofc my daily Citizen Eco Drive, my beater, got it from my father about 15/16 years ago now.

Needless to say, I was stunned when I got home and saw the price 🤯 I didn't even know Citizens came with such heft... Ooof! We talked watches a little and he showed me pictures of his collection about 4/5 of them were eco drives and a Rolex sub and a Victorinox he got as a token when he was teaching in Switzerland. Impressed but not surprised, that man made class feel like I was learning my ABCs again... Absolute ease.

A few days later, I'm on the road... my brother's on the road... I call him up, we meet up, I grab my coffee and mission: hijack your brother's day is in full swing.

Sticking to my routine to go check on my guys, when I'm out the house as I don't come out of this cave very often. They're both jewellers/jewellery store owners. I was in one store about a month ago and he'd told me he was going to have a sale. Of course I was going to pull up... but this time I got my brother with me. Funny enough they were having a sale on one of mine and my brother's as well, favourite brands... CITIZEN! Set it, forget it, trust it, love it, beat it up it'll always be there for you...Citizen.

NOW.... *Sigh*

My brother's older citizen broke, it's missing an end link, now while that may be the simplest replacement and a relatively easy problem to solve, my brother is not the simplest of men. He seems to enjoy complicating his life for one reason or another. We live in Jamaica, there aren't that many genuine jewellery stores and no you're not always lucky to walk into a jewellery store and just get a replacement end link that fits snug and doesn't rattle like the original does. Told him, order a leather strap or order a different bracelet and viola! Nope, he doesn't wear leather straps... He doesn't want to buy a whole bracelet. Smh pathetic.

Trust me, I've tried convincing him, won't work. His head is as hard as mine. I'm younger btw...

So let's try something else...

This man has 2 kids... he works hard, doesn't really take vacations, doesn't go anywhere, doesn't do anything. Just works, takes care of his family, the works. He just bought a new house for crying out loud... You gotta reward your damn self at least a little. Life is going to be what it is, yes priority is priority but c'mon.. you deserve to treat yourself at least a little bit. Otherwise you're just working yourself into your grave, whether literally or metaphorically.

So we went into the store, browsed a little and of course, like I knew it would, something caught his eye. There was already a discount but this is my spot, they treat me good here...

So after a little talking, some trying on, him flipping through a few of them... Me knowing damn well which one is leaving this store today. My guy said I could take a lil something of what's left of the top some more and... Yeah, this is his new every day piece.

You're welcome brother, you deserve it.

Now, for weeks that silly watch has been popping in and out of my head. Hey, I was the first to photograph it ... watchu expect?

I now realize, I actually have a crush on that damn watch. No, no, no, no, no... I'm not jealous, my collection is relatively perfect for me and I'll add and remove what I like and don't like soon enough but something about this watch keeps flashing across my mind. I haven't bought a watch for myself in months and I don't know if it's withdrawal or what but... Uhhh

He doesn't have many watches, he's not fully over on the dark side as I am as yet... I really do want him to come over here though, it's fun over here. I got him download WC, trying to get him to post is another thing....

Anyway, here I am contemplating, do I get one like it? do I ask to borrow it (that seems like a shitty thing to do when I have so many)? Do I need to just go ahead and buy myself one of the watches I have in my many carts across uncountable sites?

Has this ever happened to any of you? Have you ever seen a watch on someone's wrist and say hey nice watch and they go, "*shrug* yeah it's cool I guess"...

Have you ever gotten someone a watch and thought damn, should've kept that and bought something else or I should've gotten two?

How can I get @Derval to post more and live a little?
