Uncle Junior

This is my watchmakers daily.

I admire this simple man, he doesn't get fussy about much. Never really complains about anything... Always trying to test my qualifications as student of engineering. Always having a good laugh. Willing to share stories and information with me about anything from watches, jewelry to family life and parenting.

Decided today that I'd photograph his watch of the day and share it with you guys, mind you... He was so humble about it. "They don't wanna see this old thing". If only he knew how wrong he is. Ain't that a beaut?

This man is partly responsible for my addiction, by either selling me watches for cheap that otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford, or fixing old watches he has lying around and telling me to test them out only to tell me to keep it... Or fixing the "junk" I find for free or for peanuts really.

His workshop is a mess...or should I say, arranged in a fashion only he can function, I totally understand it as my design studio is exactly the same. I've tried to get him to pass on the brunt of his knowledge so I can one day be at least 1/2 as good as he is... He says he doesn't have the space at the moment but one day.

I really want to help this man fix this ill-fated Seiko that he has.

Just thought I'd share...

Any of you have a watchmaker or jeweler or boutique...friend? What's it like? What do you get them as gifts? (He has every tool that I could afford and loads that I couldn't by the way.)

Beautiful story. You can see a tiny bit of his essence already in the watch.

Love the story, and and what a fitting piece for the man you explain as that nice Breitling! Great one!

Bought this Super Avenger on a OEM pro style bracelet when guys preferred bigger watches around a decade ago, honestly it is a strong item at 48mm too large for my younger daughter who requested the Breitling when she was much younger, even too big for her 6ft tall husband. Keeps perfect time does not see daylight as often as when I first purchased it from the agent friend at 50% of retail. I have supported Breitling watches since the late 80s, still do, eventually will pass this nostalgic timepiece along to a nephew who refuses unless I accept payment but I do not sell my watches. For guys like us, watchmakers are good friends, worthy men.
