New Microbrand Coming to Kickstarter

Hello Everyone,

I'm sharing my brand Colding Newman, which I am launching after many years of development besides my job as a Furniture Architect in Copenhagen.

The story began when my farther gave me my first watch a child. I began sketching in my room the first lines of the watch I am presenting today. I kept the dream alive ever since and used the skills from my education and work to push the design and development forward.

I have been very fascinated in creating a Watch that has strong modern character, with inspiration from Architecture, in the way of playing with materials and finishes - and also mixing in some classic elements, honouring the old traditions of watchmaking.

Hope that you will welcome me into the Watch World and that you will check out the kickstarter when it launches soon, I expect the campaign launch to be on the 17th of April.

Gorgeous case design 👏👏👏

Good luck with your campaign.

Like the hands, but looks like a thicc boi.

Like the hands, but looks like a thicc boi.

The boi is 13mm thick (11.5 excluding the domed glass). It is a fairly thick design, as I like the added weight it brings and the way it highligts the shape of case. It feels great to wear :)

·

Interesting case. I see it's thicc by design (I feel many watch fans will have... opinions about this). I like the hands a lot. The main issue I see is that given the "phantom" roman numerals, small triangles under them and reduced minute chapter, it doesn't really seem very legible.

Good luck with the campaign!

·

I don't like Roman numerals or polished cases. Other than that it's quite nice

·

Mooi horloge! I wish you well

·

Thank you very much for your comments! And I think you got a very good eye, that gap was not intended and is something that I am planning on changing for the first full order, should the Kickstarter be successful.

·

What movement, materials and dimensions will the watch have?

·

Interesting...Not for me but i do wish you luck..

What movement, materials and dimensions will the watch have?

Movement is the Miyota 8215 Automatic, the Diameter is 38mm and 13mm thickness(11.5 excl. domed glass), Sapphire glass.

There will be two variations for the Kickstarter launch. 1 in steel w. Polished outer case, brushed lugs, polished hands and leather strap and 1 in steel w. Brushed case, polished lugs and polished brass hands with canvas strap (you can see both versions the attached images)

·

FWIW I also think it's too thick for that style and that the dial is tough to see.

Will it be the hacking version of the 821 Miyota?

·

Very interesting and unique design. Would prefer arabics but still would consider it for myself. I'll be watching out for the launch

·

Colding, Assuming your first watch is a huge success and you have enough money to wow the watch world with your second creation, what is it?

·

I’d love to see your designs! I’m starting out with some (really bad) sketching, so it would be nice to see how an expert does it 😁

·

Wow. Congratulations. Good luck

·

A very nice watch, completely my style. The simple and the Roman numerals give it a very beautiful touch. Congratulations and good luck man.❤💪

As far as I can read up on, the 8215 is not hackable, but I might be wrong!

If you mean my sketches for the watch I have posted some of them on my instagram, and will try to post more! :)

Exciting that you are also doing your own sketching, you shouldn’t worry about them not looking nice, they are only meant to be a quick way of making a note of your thought or idea.

I find it a great working method to use different styles, some very quick freehand, some more technical, large scale, with rulers and such, to work on detailing and then into 3D modeling, 3D printing etc.

Very good question!

I think I would like to start by playing a little bit more with this design, maybe do a metal strap version or other tints for the dial.

Secondly, I would very much love to do a take on the Cartier Santos type watch. I have and old one of those my self, which I really love. I feel it’s a very fitting typology for my monochrome architectural style, but with this go in a more thin and sharp/edgy direction than the first one.

Miyota has a hackable version of the 8215. Ref.# is 821A. Laco, Bulova and others use it. These days ,non-hacking movements are deal killers to many WIS.

I think it would be a better direction to go. I don't think it's that much more $$$.

Thank you for pointing it out, I will ask my manufacturer to make sure it is!
