Sternglas Naos (quartz) worth it?

Lately I am extremely interested in “bauahaus” style watches… I really like stuff from Nomos, Junghans and Glashütte… however I never saw any of those in person and I’m not sure how this type of watch would fit on me and my style…

So I’m interested to try buying this Sternglas and wear it for some time to see how it looks on me? Does anyone have experience with this watch, is it worth it?

I’d like to have something of decent quality, because even though I will definitely buy a better quality product later. I’ll still give this watch later to my bro, and I want him to have something that isn’t trash…

thanks :)

Well, why not just get the watch that really knocks you out? Sternglas is fine, but if I were you, I’d head straight into Junghans or Nomos territory. Right now the new Tangente Nomos colour selection is astounding and costs much less than they’re generally trading for!

I think its a reasonable idea to see if you end up liking the style. Might also be worth seeing if that brand drops sales often. While nomos or Junghans might be tempting, dropping 1 to 2 grand on a watch you might end up hating seems like a poor use of your money. Alternatively would try to see if there is anywhere near you that you might be able to try on a nomos.

I'd go for Sternglas. I'm all for saving up for the watch you really want, but if you just want to try out something new i wouldn't imediatly go for the expensive version. The fact is that you can get almost 9 quartz or about 5 automatic watches from Sternglas for the price of that one NOMOS watch (although i too think that the new NOMOS colourways look fantastic).

So if you want to try on some different styles i would go for the Sternglas, try out the look. Then you can take your time, do your research and then pick the NOMOS or Junghans you really really want.

I would also have to say that the Sternglas doesn't retain as much value as the NOMOS or the Junghans, but you should never count on getting a full return on a resell.

Also just got my own Sternglas home this morning 😉 a fun little summer watch

(The yellow is a little more muted in real life but still stunning)

This is a quartz version and im pretty impressed with the quality, and the dial looks stunning, although this version isn't as legible as the white one 😅😋

Also you can get 10% off with code: wrist10 👍

Thanks… that is exactly what I had in mind… I just don’t want to waste money and Sternglas looks like a reasonable test subject… and worst case scenario I have gift for my brother.

as for Nomos… I have a retailer near my training compound… I’ll check it out

Yeah I agree, new Nomos colour ways are absolutely outstanding and honestly that was the reason I grew to start liking this type of watches.

And thanks for your opinion on Sternglas, I think I’m convinced now

I have three Sternglas pieces (Hamburg, Naos, Sedius) and they're all nice for the money. I find the dials on each quite attractive.

Thanks for the code, that’s actually really useful 🙂

How is the yellow? I was actually looking at that exact colour because I was hoping it would match my new bike.

I can only recommend giving the Sternglas a try. The quality of the watch is very good, only the strap wears out quite quickly (but it is super comfortable). I have replaced it with a blue one from Sternglas and am absolutely satisfied. I think you get a lot for your money here. For me, the Naos was my entry into the hobby and I still love wearing it today.

The yellow is a little more muted and metallic than shown on their own website, it has almost a golden tone to it, although it is still clearly yellow and not a gold dial 😅 its a little hard to describe 😉

This is a picture straight out of my pixel7 with no retouching, i think it shows the colour pretty well, but it also depends on your screen. Just know it is not quite as yellow as shown on sternglas' website.

So I’m guessing it doesn’t stand out so much that it would be distracting… and I’m guessing other people wouldn’t necessarily notice the colour unless they really focused on th watch?

And it isn’t as bright as shown on websites?

Not as bright as the website, but i wouldn't say its covert or doesn't stand out 😉😅

Here it is in a bit more context 👍

This AliX buy is surprisingly good.

Junkers and Iron Annie also produce more affordable "German made" alternatives.

Here's mine

·

For the big(ish) money option keep Stowa in mind too. Their Antea line is a re-issue of the Weber & Baral dialed watches made by Lange and Stowa in 1937 that Nomos is also referencing in their design style.

Image

For an affordable option take a look at Braun. They sell some nice modern interpretations of the AW-10 (designed by the legendary Bauhaus-inspired designer Dieter Rams) for well under $100.

·

Do yourself a,favor, take a gander at the Antea line from STOWA before making your decision.

·

If your young then the razor thin hands and tiny numbers and indices are all right to see but you have to like the overall boring no nonsense styles the German manufacturers produce. At least Nomos plays with color sometimes.

I have a Sternglas Naos quartz and it is a lovely watch. The leather strap that came with it is the best one I've ever worn. I love the clean dial and thin case. The only problem I've had is legibility, due to my own vision issues and the delicate minimalist dial. If you are looking for stylish bauhaus at a reasonable cost, I highly recommend.
