Watch worn in accident

Ok. This is a little weird. I was in a very bad car accident. Totaled a brand new car. Strangely I walked away without a scratch.

Here”s the issue: I was wearing my Explorer 1 39mm. Now every time I wear it I think of the accident. In two ways - it was a horrible accident - but I walked away without a scratch.

I keep thinking I want to trade it but then…

So the question is - keep it or trade? Thoughts ?

That's your lucky watch.. think you have to keep it for life now :D

I don't know. I'm usually no sucker for symbolism. How about the clothes and your shoes you were wearing. Aren't they more special now?

100% personal decision. How long ago was this accident? Over time the memory attached to the watch will fade.

·

Personally I would think of it as a lucky charm after walking away scratch free, but if you have negative thoughts then its a dilemma for you.

Accident was a month ago. I’m lucky to be alive!

·

Not usually one to place luck on an object, but this may be one of those times.

If it had happened to me, this watch would now have one more huge memory attached to it and is probably a keeper.

·

Keep it. Make it help you get over the trauma. One day day you will wear it and enjoy it again. Then you know you have dealt with your trauma. Knowing there might still be bad days.

Yes so a fresh trauma still.

Must suck for sure, but the memory will "wear in", you'll forget over time the sounds of shattering glass and the forces of demolition to the car etc.

(I'm no trauma expert nor have the experience of a car accident. Been in plenty mountainbike accidents though with emergency room stories!)

Best thing to do now is just to give yourself time to reset and make no decisions at all.

Before this accident, were you actually liking the watch or did you allready have some niggles with it?

Take care,

·

I would personally keep it as a reminder of how lucky I am to be alive, but again as mentioned previously by others it is quite personal. My actual advise would be to get some appointments with a psychologist to heal your potential psychologic injuries and maybe alongside the therapy you would be better equipped to take this decision.

Take care.

That’s the crash

·

Keep for life.

You walked away without a scratch you sould try to view the Watch as a reminder life is precious.

Maybe put it away for a while because you still are suffering trama and the watch is causing it to resurface being to fresh.

I think if you get rid of the Watch all together you will eventually regret it everyday.

It’s a story that will stay with that watch that you can tell.

The difference is you will either be able to point to the watch when you tell it or regretable say “ I use to own” and end off “ I wish I kept it”

All that being said you will know in your heart wants to do. Just take your time deciding.

Happy to hear you are safe.

- Best of luck.

Thanks for the advice. It’s more of a shock that I walked away fine. These responses are helpful.

Very very lucky.

·

Can’t help with your dilemma but I’m glad you’re okay and walked away without a scratch.

·

Good thing you were in a brand new car, ecuipped with the latest safety stuff. You used it for sure.

Is that a Porsche?

·

Sell your watch? You must have sustained a head injury you forgot about. Hope you get better soon.

No head injury. Keeping old reliable.

·

Hey - If someone asks why your Explorer has a ton of scrapes on it, at least you have one hell of a story! Not everyone can say “This watch survived a car crash.”

·

As others have said, you can change you look at it as your lucky watch. Feel safe when you wear it. I know, it sounds dumb but our subconscious is pretty strong. If you can’t make yourself believe it’s your lucky watch then sell it. Nothing is more important than your mental health, do what makes you feel best even if it doesn’t make sense “logically”.

·

You should not sell a Explorer in general, but definitely not after surviving that wreck... I have the 39mm which was my first nice watch and I'll never sell it, then I just got the two tone Explorer 36mm and it's a total keeper... The 39mm Explorer is perfect for going to not so nice places or democrat ran cities, or traveling since it's so inconspicuous and under the radar but still a great solid watch... My vote is keep keep keep

·

clearly the watch has bad juju

best give it to......me!

·

Depends on how your mind works. Some would see it as a good luck token, some would see it as a bad luck token. Some would see it for what it truly is... just something you were wearing in an accident.

I mean, look at it this way, are you looking to get rid of your wallet or phone? Presumably they were there, too. How about the shoes you were wearing? Etc, etc. These things are just objects, and had nothing to do with the crash. The only power they can ever have is the power you give them, for good or ill.

·

You obviously don't ascribe to Nietzsche.

If it bothers you that much you can send it to me. I promise I won't ever remind you of it again...😉

Yep. Brand new Macan GTS. Worked hard and waited long to get it. Now it’s scrap. Still feel

Lucky though

The car was great, but it was just a thing. The watch is great, but it’s just a thing, too. The things in life aren’t what matter. Life matters. It’s ok to sell or trade it if that’s what you want. It’s ok to keep it.

·

I'm glad to hear that you walked out of it unscratched.

Now, about the symbolism. Why do you think it was the watch that saved you and not your socks or the meal you ate before the accident?

If you are thinking about flipping it, this won't break some magical shield or aura. Get the cash and enjoy another piece :)

Cheers.

·

💯 per cent a lucky watch. Keep it!

·

Get “this too shall pass” engraved on the back and treasure it for life.

It was kind of my go to for every day beat around

So you liked ot a lot before. I'd say just keep it. Just maybe don't wear it for the next 3 - 6 months or so.

·

As you leave the wreck untouched keep the watch. It kept you alive. It ll show you on every glimpse that your job on earth isn t done yet

·

I have a similar watch in my collection as well. My wife bought me a beautiful Tissot Ballade to celebrate the upcoming birth of a child but we then had a late miscarriage. I have not worn it since the loss but can’t seem to part with it. Torn about it…

The positive is we now have our first daughter and she’s healthy and happy. ❤️
