Wooden watches?

My buddy reminded me some makers make cases from wood. Favorite makers and any info on them?

This is one of the things I want to know. I would say they wouldn't have the same resistance as other watches. They most likely are for asthetic and variety.

A friend of mine swears on 'Holzkern'. 3 bars wr, quartz, looking nice, the lot of em imho. But can t say anything from first hand

I bought a handsome Spinnaker (mistake) with a ‘cool’ wooden bezel. The bezel split around an insert. Put me off the wood/watches thing forever. 😖

That is definitely top of the list for concerns I have with wooden watches.

I think Bobobird is a company that specializes in wooden watches. Most watches are wooden inlays and not cases, like Pono Woodworks or Original Grain.

·

Many may pine for one but I wooden wear one if it was free. There are plenty of other watches to spruce up my collection. And before you call me a son of a birch-I do have this.

I have a Treehut that's pretty nice. But I only wear it on occasion, because wood watches dent and scratch easily..

I like what you did there

A wooden dial sealed the usual steel case could potentially be interesting. Otherwise I’m not interested in wooden watches as they’re too fragile.

·

I bought an all-wood watch, and it's really chintzy. Don't go all wood. If you like the look of wood in a watch, get one with a wooden bezel inlay or a wooden dial.

I agree that sounds like the way to go

I have the original wooden watch maker. The first to make a watch from wood. Tissot with this model here.

You're welcome. This is the only wooden watch that I will own. I have 2 of these. I have them for the history. I have heard that wooden watches are known for carrying and holding bacteria in them because it's a porous material.

That's why I switch leather for synthetic bands on my field watches I wear for work

The wood watches are the cheapest quality things you could find. Right up there with gas station watches. they would be better if they had better quality movements but forget about getting them wet. Wood swells and shrinks by the water absorbed.

·

I can't get wood anymore. My girlfriend is actually rather knowledgeable on wood and she tells me that wood never lasts long enough for her.

I'm against disposing of stuff, so I'd rather stick with steel or even chromed brass. I see the appeal though.

All of that makes sense but the way people collect oddities I'm surprised it isn't more of a market demanding higher quality.

·

They're all sort of gimmicky and crappy. I'd steer clear, honestly.

The 2 Tissots that I have, have Swiss Ronda movements in them. I just remembered that I have an automatic wooden watch that has an ETA movement in it. I have to find that one. I'm going to use it in something else.

I had a wooden watch years ago, it looked nice but no idea what happened to it 😔. I got it free through Galaxy chocolate can't remember how must have been collecting wrappers or something.

You can get watches from chocolate? I've been doing this all wrong!

We are talking about 30 years ago now, wish I still had it, if I remember rightly the strap broke after that I'm not sure what happened to it.

I was gifted this one, made by Bonheur. Definitely a conversation starter but not something I wear very often. I am not sure how durable it is and I wouldn’t wear it out on a rainy day!

They float so don’t need a good depth rating 😆

·

They don't need water resistance. They float 🤷

I like the green against the wood tone

Woodie Spec and Rustic Tac are two brands that come to mind. But I don't think Woodie Spec exists anymore.
