As a dedicated collector with watches that cost from $20 to over $100K, my considered opinion is this - the guys a tool, a great wobbling raging tool, with limited social skills and an abiding hatred for the world around him. A Zelos is an equally fine choice over a Rolex (actually, Anything is a valid choice over Anything Else) - people who troll forums to post this sort of stuff are bascially W⚓s and need to be laughed at repeatedly and often, at every opportunity. Wow. I feel better now.
Love them. the straps are a bit 'meh', but easily fixed 😄 I have the dubiously named Max Bill 'MEGA Solar', as a reference for setting other watches (it's a self-correcting atomic clock radio receiver). Looks great on an aftermarket milanese mesh bracelet, and utterly low key, whilst astill being beautiful.
From my service days, what soldiers really want from a field watch....
24 hour markers, so that the new squad member, who still hasn't learned to count past 12, can work out when the next meal is due/when the gates open for leave/when to wake up
Quartz movement, because who can be bothered winding watches, right?
A silent bezel, because waking your oppo as you go clicky-clicky will get you punched.
Black PVD, because black is waaaaay cooler, and cool matters.
(literally) bombproof glass, because who hasn't swiped their ops watch against a wall/vehicle/doorway/bar-top/garden path/window frame at some point?
No issue stamps or markings, to make it easier to 'forget' to give it back when you leave.
A proper plastic/rubber strap in black, because fabric gets full of water and mud (and also...black...cool....see 4).
Issued as part of one's kit. Free of charge is better than almost any other feature.
Better than the previous issue in any small way, for bragging rights.
Cheap and easily replaced at one's own cost when you wreck/lose/get it nicked (when....not if)
Made in a country other than the one you serve in - becasue every item of kit made overseas is 'better' than domestic kit (regardless of where you serve!!)
I'm sure there are more, but you had to be there :D
(tongue in cheek, but hey, it's Wednesday - I'm right with the OP - far too much angst about whether a watch is properly 'field' or not )
It's a nice watch, and excellent value. I'm not sold on the design, but that's just a matter of my (strange) taste - I do wish I hadnt seen this pic just after a pic of a Tudor Ranger - I can't unsee the hour hand!!), but gratz on a nice watch!!
