My Daily Beater

This SD4K used to be my daily beater for years, probably the best cost per use watch I have.

Got all scratched up and I don’t even know when did that happened, but I love it. Still think whoever that have the lesser scratches in their watches, lose.

Still work like a charm, just the screw in crown not as crisp as it used to be.

Otherwise, I bring this piece with me most of the time.

While I'm going to assume you made this post with good intentions, calling a watch that sells second hand for $20K+ CAD a "beater" comes across as an attempt at a "humble brag".

Nice watch, glad you enjoy using it...

No mate, not here to brag anything.

Just sharing my view within the crucher’s community.

8 years ago, this is the only “luxury” watch i that i can afford and have. Got it for USD8k+ back then, in AD with 8% discount, back then no one wants this model, everyone were only after submariner, even GMT2 all black were lying around.

So I don’t perceive the resell value today, after all don’t plan to sell it and i promise you, “brag” did not cross my mind at all. Because there are alot of people here call AP, VC or even PP their daily beater…

Fair points, and as I said I assumed you were just a guy posting his watch like the rest of us. It's a great watch, and I personally prefer it over the Sub with a wart on the crystal.

I just wanted to highlight that perception matters, and describing a watch worth more than many people's cars as a "beater" might generate negative reactions.

·

You are wearing it exactly how supposed to be worn, it’s only idiots that place high values on these. To me these a premium tool watches.

·

I have the same beater. What I've learned is that this thing is indestructible!

love it too!

best SD ever (imo) with the least production numbers of all SDs

TOTALLY UNDERRATED!!!!!!

·

That’s why we buy ‘em yeah - to wear?

Shouldn’t matter what it costs - buy them and wear them as intended or why bother?

🙂

Yes they are here to serve us, to be used by us. Not the other round.😅

Yeah.. anything to do with Rolex seems to be sensitive here😅.

Just trying to say i use the watch like it supposed to be.

I think whether for car, watch, wine, they are here to serve us regardless what price tag they are.

Probably better title next time, “My Daily” would sounds better?

Why change the title? The man wears it as a beater and treats it like one. When you said might generate negative remarks this is exactly what you did, no one else has. This is a place for watch geeks, i havent seen must snobbery and this certainly isnt in this category but just because one is more expensive then the other it doesnt mean that they are looking down on you. If that was the case we would not have gshocks next to APs. Great picture yedterday of Breitling worn by a father who wears it during metal work, fantastic! Rolex doesnt = knob 😉

I don't know about all these daily beater conversations. Even when I could only afford the cheapest watches, think Fossil, Skagen and the like, I didn't have a "daily beater". I always changed my watch on a daily basis even back then.

Wearing a single watch almost 100% of the time, only broken for special occasions and the like, is totally alien to me. There are just way too many attractive watches at all price points to "settle" on one thus becoming your daily beater. No offense meant but how boring!

I've never had fear of wearing my watches, they're tougher than I am why be afraid to use them? People talk about how they take their watch off to play golf to avoid vibrations but nobody bats an eye when a Saturn V rocket rattles astronauts teeth out while a Speedmaster is on their wrist. They're not made of glass folks!

Well with all due respect, $8k (USD), is more than most can afford to buy a "beater". I think it is all relative. I wore my Rolex Sub 14060M as a daily, until I got my, Tudor Pelagos 39mm. Now the P39 is my daily. I truly don't consider any of my watches: Beaters. I do feel it is a flex to say I wear my $8 watch as a beater. Again all perspective. I was considering the SeaDweller. Nice watch. Enjoy.

Nice explorer2 there sir.

I think for beater or not, wear them more, it just a watch, yes it could be 8k, 20k resale value, but what is resale value has to do with the wearing?

I was just trying to get to the point of wearing the watch regardless of the price point, I would be completely missing the point if the title be like “watch in the safe” because is a 20k resale value watch…

Perhaps some people didn’t read thru the whole thing but the title.😞

Saying that… I do take mine off when unloading the dishwasher and doing anything that could “seriously hurt” my watches….

Does that totally contradict myself? 😂🤷‍♂️

I do that too, if i know gonna like move a multiple furniture thru tight spot or mixing cement for example,

I do take it off or wont wear the watch.

But at least we don’t afraid to wear them on daily basis.

*wearing it on daily basis doesn’t mean mean flex***😅

Exactly these are not porcelain watches. I mean Rolex, until the ceramic ones, were/are tool watches.
