Which One is your Pick... N Why? ๐Ÿ˜Š

1. Fortis Pilot Watch

2. Aristo Pilot Flieger

3. Archimede Flieger Watch

4. Laco

5. Stowa

What's your take n why, fellow watchfam? ๐Ÿ˜Š I'm leaning towards all except number 4...

Not sure why though. ๐Ÿ˜

while I prefer Fliegers with Type-"B" dials, of your choices I'm giving the nod to #5 ... Stowa ... it has a the look of an authentic vintage Pilot Watch with the patina and onion crown ... needs a vintage brown leather strap though!

Thanks mate. ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿ‘

Of the options put forward, the Stowa gets my vote!

ยท

Stowa because sterile and no date.

ยท

fortis, i like the strap and the splash of blue

The Fortis รคnd then the Aristo; all the other come well after those top two.

I'm not much of a fan of Flieger-style watches: I don't know exactly why, bรผt they just don't do it for me. Bรผt if I can choose, then I'll take the "A"-style (hours, right?) over the "B"-style every day of the week. My reasons:

  1. Fortis: Look, I'm biased รคnd I'll admit it: I really, really like Fortis โ€“ they are one of the last independent Swiss brands, รคnd one of the few thรคt I would buy. Going beyond my bias tho, I think this one is the most-refined of all the watches here. The almost-delicate minute-track is so much less blocky thรคn the rest, รคnd the spacing on those markers is better. I like the numerals used here, especially the '4'. The small-seconds is not so important to me, bรผt the blue seconds-hand is lovely รคnd adds just a drop of color. The date รคt 6 o'clock is also good. Overall, this watch just looks premium, รคnd frankly out of the class of the rest.

  2. Aristo: I don't know this brand so ymmv, bรผt I see a return to Flieger-form in the dial design โ€“ bรผt it is well-executed. The case looks fine; I like the serifs on the '1' numerals, รคnd the seconds-hand is large รคnd visible. The date รคt the 3 o'clock is fine. Altogether a very workmanlike รคnd plain (classic?) interpretation of the Flieger style.

The other three have two major problems for me: I don't like the hands so much, รคnd there is no date or the date is clumsily-used (looking รคt you, Archimede). I prefer to have a date on most of my watches.

Stowa on brown leather strap. Laco would be as good if black dial. Not 1-3 because of the date.

ยท

#5 Stowa

I like the hands, the crown, the case shape and the numerals.

It's amazing how different the same watch can be when you're looking at the little details

ยท

Specifications or style? Who can fault a modern replay of a vintage design? I'm a Type A, but not a fan of the huge onion crowns. Stowa is the compromise I'd choose. But as always choose what chooses you.

IWC ๐Ÿ™ˆ

ยท

Laco actually has a number of different dial variants and customizations. You can get it without the Laco printed and A and B formats.

ยท

The Laco as they offer the most affordable option with Augsburg 39 and a great compact size as well.

ยท

Aristo, because they're the cheapest. Barring that, Fortis, because those are built well. Then Stowa and Laco and lastly Archimede.

ยท

I like Stowa especially for its onion crown (or however itโ€™s called) and because I get to say โ€œStovaโ€ ๐Ÿ˜€. I retrofitted the Hermes strap from my old Apple Watch, which has one of the best deployment clasp hardware. Plus, the leather aged really well.

LAร‡O Pro.

ยท

I'm on a small seconds hand kick so that's what I would choose

ยท

For flieger, I'd picked either of the two with no logos to have a more authentic or 'true to period' feel. I like Laco but the logo looks out of place.

Laco Kempten 39mm

ยท

That Fortis looks great. All do, but the six o clock subdial and blue hand is extra cool.

ยท

Hmm. SOMEone has to speak up for the Archimede. IF you want a "real" Flieger THEN I agree with a lot of folks - Laco or Stowa. Why? Both made the real deal back in WWII. ME? I would either buy a vintage WWII Stowa or Laco (I have a field watch from both USArmy and Wehrmacht) OR get a modern interpretation: like the Archimede. The Archimede is its own beast. Well made (Ickler case) and the option to get hardened steel, no? My three cents.

ยท

5, stowa, love the blue hands.

ยท

I'd take the Foris, love the sub-seconds dial.

ยท

ARCHIMEDE would be my choice.

When I was researching my flieger purchase there were a few must-haves for me that I found in the Archimede. (Note: I narrowed it down to the Laco Pro 37 and the Archimede 36mm but the greenish numerals and indices of the Laco were the deal breaker)

  1. >38mm case size

  2. White (Not greenish) numerals and indices

  3. Came with a stainless steel bracelet

  4. Good quality case

  5. Although not one of the original flieger manufactures the Ickler company that owns and makes Archimedes watches dates back to 1924 I believe and are known for their quality cases.

  6. I was okay with a more modern interpretation of the watch i.e. Im okay with the flat end hands on the watch and the diamond vs onion crown.

  7. I wanted a no date complication

I love this watch....

I have both the Laco and the Stowa. Probably my imagination but I feel the history in both.

ยท

Great choices!

I would pick the Fortis!๐Ÿ’ฏ

Apart from the brands aerospace history, and actual astronauts using them in space, I actually owned one. It was of top level build and handsome๐Ÿ‘Œ ( sold it got an IWC Mark18 as my budget allowed me to)

BUT the most important reason why I would pick it over the others is because it seems to have its own identity stylistically!

*beautiful finished case , dial and the seconds running at the button is a super nice touch especially with that Bluetiful hand!

Good luck itโ€™s a tough challenge you have a head of you!

The Archimede Flieger Watch I suppose. Though I don't like the crown.

Or the Fortis though I don't like the hands. Haha.

None tickle me enough to actually buy one.

ยท

Stowa - superb watch company and pleasure to do business with. Them offering personalization and engraving is very cool. Also a fan of Archimede as they are owned by Ickler (watch case co.) and their cases are thus in-house.

Stowa b/c crown and bracelet.

I like Laco. Have a few, reviewed a few. There is a certain point when the dial on most Flieger styles all start to look...... similar?

Well said mate. Hence, I'm not that sure that history plays sucha big part... In a somewhat generic dial like this... Sorry, don't mean to be so straight forward but it's a Really simple dial... ๐Ÿ˜
