What is Breitling Doing to Me?

Okay guys, I love WatchCrunch for its self-discovery journey. Seeing watches from my past on your wrists that bring up memories and seeing new ones help me clarify my preconscious preferences.

On the one hand I respect everyone's love with their watches. On the other hand some watches, like Rolex, leave me indifferent while others make me dream.

Yesterday, I walked past Tudors, Rolexes, Jaeger-LeCoultres, Cartiers, Glashütte Originals, Montblancs and others. But again, I got stuck at the Breitling showcase. I don't know what it is, but Breitlinge cast a spell on me. If I ever happened to spend an irresponsible amount of money on a piece of outdated machinery, it would be a Breitling.

Maybe I can figure out, what it is, that pulls me towards Breitling.

Do you have similar experiences with a particular watch brand?

Yes, for me it's Omega.

No rationale why, I just love 'em. Maybe subconsciously it's the Moon, Bond and the Olympic Games & advertising seeping into my brain, or maybe aesthetics.

Maybe I'm as shallow as a puddle and it's brand recognition I crave.

No idea, I just like 'em. 🤔🤣👍

This might sound kinda sad… but Casio.

I seem to always wanted to buy the newest releases from Casio. Especially with their vintage collections.

Too often I didnt get to wear them! I just love looking at them at my watch display.

But then again, I can buy a 1000 Casios for the price of one Rolex. 😅😂

Oh yeah. For some reason I just gravitate to chronographs and more specific IWC chronographs. When you know, you know, and most times, there is no proper reason. Could be as simple as, I just like how it looks.

My dad was the same with Breitling. Apart from some obscure pocket watches it was the only watch he raved about. I'm the complete opposite. I love 1960's - 70's Rolex OP and GS. Simple elegance with no complications. 🤷

I have this issue with most brands. They all offer something appealing for the most part and I'm trying to experience as many as I can. May be done for a bit until I retire in 14 years or so.

Yes for me its Longines and Breitling. The Longines as my dad had one and the Breitling as a friend got one years ago when he was 20 and got a good job, I couldn't believe how lovely it was and has stuck with me since. I inherited my dads Longines but I cant afford a Breitling, but I do like to look at them.

Yes it’s………. Breitling!

We’re bewitched my friend 😂

The brand that pulls me back ceaselessly is also Breitling, the Chronomat line conjures memories of my late older brother, his 80s two tone Chronomat never leaves the wrist of his older daughter, my niece who was with me that terrible moment when her dad passed away. My own daughter wears my 15 year old Chronomat which I handed to her when she announced that she was going to Africa just ahead of the global pandemic. Breitling also recalls my friendship with the Swiss gent who arrived in Canada hoping to market high horology but ironically achieved his success representing a brand that he considered below Patek, AP, VC, Brequet and Blancpain.

Vintage 50s-60s Omega Seamasters for me because that's the brand my dad and favorite uncles wore when I was growing up.

Omega... Yep.... The Speedmaster.
