Gifting myself my first proper watch for surviving a surgery

My first step towards my journey of watch collecting. I had always been interested in starting my own watch collection. Loved learning about them since childhood. Recently I went through a grueling surgery and I'm still recovering from it. So i decided that now would be the best time to revel myself in some self indulgence. I was scrolling one day through Instagram and saw an ad for this watch. That beige dial and the two tone construction immediately caught my eye. It was basically love at first sight. So I bought one as quickly as possible and even then I only managed to grab the last one in stock. Also it seems that this dial version of the Timex Marlin Chronograph is uncommon, all I found on Instagram, YouTube, etc were the panda dial and green dial ones. So what should my next step in watch collection be? A GADA or a dive watch or something else entirely. Would love to know your opinions and your thoughts on my first purchase.

What a great looking watch. I haven’t seen one before, but it definitely looks like a chrono version of the Marlin, which is a surprisingly good idea.

Glad you’re still with us, hope your recovery goes well.

Congrats on both accounts: the watch and getting thru the surgery!

I have the panda version of that watch and love it. If you get the right diver it can also be a GADA watch. Your Timex can double as a dress watch, because they look great with a suit, and I would get a diver next. If you want a true diver, over 200m or more water resistance, look into Citizen. They have some good automatics and eco-drives at decent prices. It really depends on how much you want to spend and how big a watch will fit your wrist. Orient's are great but big. Citizen comes in all sizes. If you want something with just 100 meter water resistance, so a "dive style" watch look at the Seiko 5 sports. They had them on sale on the Kohl's website for a little over $160. I'm not sure if that price is still good or not. I have that one as well and it's terrific. If you want something more upmarket you can get a Longines Conquest quartz from Jomashop for a little under $600. It's a GADA, but not a dive watch, but has 300m of water resistance, so you can swim in it. I also have that and it's fantastic. There are a few suggestions.

Thanks brother.... My Timex looks like a knockoff of your pretty Carrera. Would love to own one myself one day.

The cutout kills an otherwise great design

The cutout kills an otherwise great design

Kills is a strong word. Though I still agree it would've looked much better without the cutout.

Get well soon. 😊

Just browse on the Internet. If something seems OK, then it isn't the one!

The watch you need is the one that when you view it, you are drawn to it. You save the image and keep going back to it. 😊

Congratulations on your first watch, that's a gorgeous Timex! I recommend you a reliable Japanese everyday style watch. Citizen has put out some great releases recently.

Glad to hear you got through the surgery and doing well. Look after yourself brother 🤝. Very beautiful dial on that Timex 😍

Welcome! Great piece to start off on with a classic complication. For next steps I would suggest to wait a while and see what are instances where you would want something different on the wrist, and go from there.. works well for me! 👍
