Why wouldn’t you buy Tudor Black Bay 41

I’m considering a Tudoe Black Bay 41 ref M79540-006.

Why shouldn’t I buy/invest in this watch?

Curious what the group has to say. Image

Cool watch... I´m a big fan of the brand. It will click a lot of boxes. My only "negative" comment would be that is almost "too perfect", making it a little bit flat if you ask me. Value for money is awesome, this would be a great everyday watch...

Simple, clean, value, quality… seems like a good choice

I owned this watch for a little bit. I have a small wrist and couldn’t get past the thickness of it, it looked like a “slab“ on me. But I have a friend that bought it from me. He has a larger wrist and it looks great. It just didn’t work for me. But it is a beautiful piece, no doubt.

What’s your wrist size?
One of my current go to is my SRPD59K1 which has a 42mm case.

6.5”. I wish I could wear larger sizes, but it does help w all the smaller ones. They end up fitting well, so I can’t complain too much.

If you can try on a 36 as well. It's les of a slab on the wrist, but I find the crown gap between the case to be more noticeable. Both are nice watches.  If they made a 39 I'd would have likely bought one.

·

For me personally I prefer the 36mm size. I guess my only negative thoughts about it are:

1 They have ETA 2824 or Sellita SW200 movements.

2 They made a polarizing style choice by using large diver style lume plots in a field watch style case.

For the right price I would buy one.

I have one and absolutely love it.  7.5" wrist here, so no fitment issues at all.  It's just a cool looking watch; low-profile, under-the-radar, fun to wear, and keeps great time.  Trying to add a pic, not sure how it works.

·

my only recommendation would be to try on both the 36/41. The 36 wears great and it’s what I ended up going with. It’s definitely not an “investment” watch, but you won’t loose your shirt on it. I originally purchased as an alternative to a Rolex and flipped it once I had the opportunity to “upgrade”. After 6 months with the Rolex I repurchased the Tudor as my 1-2 combo. The Tudor holds its own in my collection and feels at home as the “tool” watch in my collection. I hope nobody is able to talk you out of it, it’s definitely worth the subdued hype!

·

I have the 36 and love it (7 inch wrist). If the 41 fits, I don’t think you can go wrong with it. Some say it’s slab sided, and I guess it is, but it’s significantly slimmer than the Black Bay Heritage models with the in-house movements. I think it will be fine.

I think tudor watches are far superior in terms of value for money than most other watch brands including the omega iwc etc. I think their finishing is exceptional especially considering the price. If they charge 10k instead of their 3-5k price range, that would still be a good deal. It’s truly one of the most underrated watch brands and I honestly don’t know why Rolex undercharges for them

·

Simply because I don’t like the look and I don’t like that it will always be a Rolex Explorer‘s little brother. (That’s why I wouldn’t buy one)

·

For me, a 41mm is getting too big. Some previous experience with newer Tudor, the cases are also quite thick.

·

Because I already own the Black Bay Bronze :-)

·

If you like the look and the size I don't think you can go wrong with this one. It is a really good watch. It might be so good its boring... If you know what I mean. :D

·

I’m wearing mine now. Love this piece. I bought on bracelet but I actually like it better on the factory brown leather strap. It changes it so much and the dial sticks out even more.

I tried on the 36 as well and it was just too small.

the only negative is the power reserve always seems to stop short of the 38 hrs (I think).

good luck with your decision…Image

I own the 42mm BB, and I definitely agree with the ‘slab‘ comments above with respect to case design. I love the watches, but I don’t think you can avoid the extremely flat and brick-ish profile of the BB model line at any case diameter.

·

Thanks @WBoggs. I think the “shine” may be what ultimately turns me away from this watch.

·

I think the BB41 is an awesome watch. It's simple and clean. Depending on your wrist, I'd try on the BB36 and the BB41 so you can see which one feels more comfortable to you before buying it.

I used to own this watch. It's a very nice piece, but my biggest gripe was that the dial was too reminiscent of the Black Bay dive watch. It looks like a scaled down version of the diver, rather than a watch having its own unique character. The crystal is also annoyingly flat (with zero dome) that is a glare magnet. Yeah, I know, Rolex crystals are flat like that also, but the Black Bay dive watch has such a nicer dome to its crystal.

If you want a 41mm Tudor that's not a diver, I'd consider the recently-discontinued 41mm Tudor Ranger, I think it has more of that classic Tudor DNA (including the Tudor rose on the dial) without looking like a "discount" Black Bay dive watch.

Thanks for the insight and suggestion. The search goes on.

I just got the 41 and I'm loving it!
