Stickers

Okay guys I did it. I sealed my Datejust with stickers. You can barely see them and if the watch is on your wrist and it gets dirty, you‘re probably not gonna see them at all. I mainly got them for the clasp, as this part already had a few scratches after a few days. (Wish I put those stickers on there before but it‘s okay). I‘m not sure if I will keep them on the band but I‘m definetely gonna keep them on the clasp and case. I will tell you how it performs over time. Maybe it‘s gonna change it‘s color or peel off by itself. Then it‘s garbage but right now I would say it‘s worth a try.

Okay, this is very much beyond me...yes, I cringe a bit when I bang my GO Senator into a kitchen cabinet, a door post or the edge of a desk. But that's part and parcel of wearing the darn thing. But to each his own! And can sort of understand it if you aim to keep the watch as pristine as possible for future re-sale...

Not for resale. I just don‘t wanna look at it 2 weeks after I got it and count scratches. Maybe later when I understand it‘s „just“ a watch. I said earlier especially for the clasp, that part getting scratches and not protecting it is like having your Ferrari not foiled on the front to protect it from stone scratches or to go into a shooting without a bullet proof west.

As I said. Gonna test it now and then we‘ll see.

I'd be interested to see how it looks after a couple of months, whether those stickers start attracting dirt.

And then, wrap your sofa in plastic!

And then, wrap your sofa in plastic!

Different thing. I don‘t love my sofa but I love my watch.

·

I don’t think it’s any worse than the clear wrap to protect the paint on your car, the silicone case to protect your phone.

I get watches are “tools” but most aren’t designed to be hammers.

What kind of vinyl is harder than steel?

·

There's nothing cooler than a battered up old Rolex, still being used for what it was made for.

Unfortunately I'm not that cool and would do exactly the same thing.

Me: Reads “You can barely see them”

Nooyo. They‘re from Germany and I‘m also from Germany. That‘s wh I used them.

IMO please no stickers guys, come on it's part of the exploration, are we going to worry about such things all the time, and if we are let's not drive our cars and don't forget to bubble wrap our grand kids to avoid them getting banged up. You've seen my pretty big collection of great unprotected time pieces I put up recently, I wear them without concern at all, I'm not wreckless nor over protective of my time pieces.

·

I'm interested in what you are doing as an experiment as I have a datejust bought new in May. I wear it regularly and it has picked up a few minor scratches on the clasp. Plus I have a plain bezel which is always going to be vulnerable.

I'm not too stresses about scratches though as the watch will be with me for good and when I get it serviced in ten years or so my understanding is it comes back looking pretty clean? Then it starts all over again!

I actually prefer a Rolex to look like its lived a little.

Never the less I am interested to see whether the sticker idea has legs?

I'll send you some jeans, a long sleeve shirt, boots, gloves and some Charming TP to help you become scratch and dent resistant. 😂

Seriously I get what you're after but it's a little much. Just get another watch you can wear. You'll be happier. I feel you're setting yourself up for failure. What happens when you scratch it through to stickers? Wishing you the best of luck.

If I scratch it through the stickers then so be it but I wanna try it first

I have to ask how much did it cost?

Protective film works on cars so it has to work if it’s high quality.

Around 50€ pretty much for some stickers, two alcohol pads and tweezers. But if it works it‘s pretty okay talking about a luxury watch.

When gardening I suppose I should do something similar.

I second that. If you'd love your watch it would show. It would tell a story after years of "loving" wear and tear.

This watch, with "stickers" on, will tell no story. Except the one that you made a sticker-selling-sucker happier.

But as others have said: You do you. I, for my part, can tell you what my watch(es) went through.

·

Congrats, there is nothing wrong with doing that, I got my Pepsi done as well and would do it to others. It's got nothing to do with being man enough or you can't really afford it, I find it so much more enjoyable wearing it knowing it will stay the way I want it to, those PCLs are so delicate. Some say it's your story, the battle scars bring back those memories and that would be true if you had a couple watches, did 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. Come on, when you're a watch person that ship has long sailed because you have 50 watches...which one will have your story?

At the end of the day, I don't like to wear jacked up watches. It's fine if others don't mind.

And then, wrap your sofa in plastic!

Same reason why people get PPF or ceramic coating on their cars, by that logic cars are meant to be driven so why protect it? Why repair the fender bender, why repair the scratch? it's tells your story. 😂

I’ve seen those stickers on a watch before — to me, it takes away some of the sheen and makes the metal look a bit duller irl.

I’d say just get those first scratches in and get over it — when the time comes for a service, a light polish will sort everything out.

Ok so not too crazy in price.

Give it a good try!

Everyone secretly hates scratches🤫

This is the clasp from my 3yr old DJ. Nowadays, I wear it once every two weeks as part of my rotation, but I wore this 3 times a week when I first got it for at least the first year. Didn’t use stickers, I just didn’t beat the hell out of it. Yes, there are hairline scratches that are not even noticeable. You don’t need stickers to keep it looking good.

Mine already has scratches from just chilling at home and sometimes putting my hand on the table. One bigger one and some small ones on one point, where I always lay the watch on.
