My usual air travel companion

I picked up the IWC Spitfire Chronograph at the AD in Vancouver a few years ago when I was in town. It was initially a decision between this watch and the Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional. After first trying on the Moonwatch I thought I had already made my decision as I loved it so much, but I completely forgot about it after putting this watch on my wrist. I made the purchase decision 5 minutes after walking in the door. The chronograph actuation feels crisp and exact. Winding gives a satisfying ratcheting sound and the original green textile strap just gave it such a robust tactical feel. To me it looked like the perfect pilot chronograph. I didn’t realize it was 15.3mm thick, it doesn’t feel that big on my wrist. I switched it to an IWC rubber strap as I often travel to hot and humid countries and now I feel this watch has truly become my favorite chronograph. IWC gave me some fun swag as well, including a branded travel case, the yearly IWC hardbound catalogue book and some free springbars. Service was just amazing. I’ve now become such a fan of their amazing straps that I buy them frequently for my non-bracelet timepieces. What are your thoughts on IWC and their watches? Do you have a favourite chronograph?

Thanks brother. Cheers!

I think IWC is cool as f*ck.

Have the Mark XVIII in blue for several years...one of my most worn watches.

Got the Big Pilot 43 in blue on the bracelet 4 weeks ago, and I am so impressed by it´s beauty, wearing experience, etc... that I decided to buy also the Black one, to wear on a leather strap...it should arrive Friday

Beautiful! I tried both of these watches on and couldn’t get the Big Pilot 43 off of my mind, but I just don’t have the right wrist to pull it off! But it looks fantastic on everybody else. Enjoy!

I know the feeling....I have that with the Big Pilot (46 mm) 5002, the first generation, man, that must be the coolest watch ever made....but I cannot wear it, it´s just too big for my wrist.

Cheers!

I said it before I'll say it again. No one does pilot watches like IWC!

Agreed 😎

Oh wow, this is special 🎯

Even though the green and blue dials of this are eye catching, this would be the one for me. I have tried it on and yeah… I was surprised that the thickness wasn’t an “issue”

The man has great taste in watches! Goes to show that sometimes putting on a watch in person is the best way to make a decision versus just reading specs alone.

Also a big fan. So glad they offer a large selection in smaller sizes, the big pilots feel like wall clocks on my wrist.

Beautiful watch! Is that an IWC strap?? Love the woven texture!

·

Congrats on your purchase! I also have a spitfire chrono and it’s an amazing watch that wears better than the specs indicate. I do rock my Mark XX more frequently though - that watch just melts into my wrist. Can’t go wrong w/ IWC.

Also I like that black strap pairing! I’ve only used straps that compliment the fauxtina and should try to experiment outside of greens, tans, and beige

Yup, it’s an IWC textured rubber strap. It’s my favorite strap.

Proud owner of the IWC Portuguese Chrono and IWC Mark XX. Always loved the Spitfire Chrono, and this version of it is their best. Great work sir!

I know! IWC wasn't on my wish list but when I was at a jewelry store for my wife, they tried to sell me this. At first I said no, but two days later it was in my wrist on the way home!

I can understand. In my watch journey I've always tried to add something different in terms of brand or design: blue Tag Aquaracer, black Orient Kano, Parnis Kermit, black Tudor Pelagos, champagne GS spring drive, black Moonswatch, black Laco Augsburg, and latest blue Mark XX.

I could never really understand people who bought three Tudors, for instance. My GS AD is a lovely guy, but I'm not going to get another GS (unless I win the lottery and might go for the tentagraph). They're just too similar.

I'm not going to spend big time on a watch again for a while, and I always thought my aspirational chronograph would be the Omega speedy. But IWC... there's something about their design that could make me a repeat customer. And that green... phew!

(IWC has also completely cured me of my desire to own a Rolex. I put my Mark XX next to a OP? No comparison. Mark XX on a bracelet wins hands down.)

It's a fun indulgence. Expensive like a coke habit, but healthier nasal cartilage.

Or so I've heard.
