A refugee from Watch U Seek

In the nicest terms I objected to promoted content on Watch U Seek. Evidently it is a "Cardinal Sin" to say anything negative about an advertiser. For me, and others on the forum, it was a "make my day" moment for Sgt Brad who is a moderator on the site who went on a spree sanctioning contributors with similar concerns. I escalated my concern in all sorts of directions. Eventually verticalscope came around to the fact that they made a mistake.

We understand that you have submitted a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, raising concerns regarding Russian advertising by Raketa, a Russian watch company, on Watchuseek.com. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. As a policy, we do not accept advertising that targets users in Russia or that originates from Russian entities. The advertisement and account at issue have both been removed. If you have any further questions,

So I requested being un-banned - and the answer from the same guy that made the mistake in the first place is NO. I have calls out to the executives at Verticalscope.

This is the last I will say of it. Basically I have a large watch collection and look forward to speaking to our common hobby.

Hello and welcome to WC!

Thanks.. What is on your wrist to me is why I am on a forum. In life, A door closes and a door opens.

In life, A door closes and a door opens.

Exactly!

I've only surfed the forums over at WUS. I never felt compelled to make an account on there. Here I made an account after only checking it out for a few minutes. Glad I did. It's better and more friendly over here, in my opinion. Hope you enjoy it here, too!

·

Welcome to a more balanced watch group!

·

Welcome! Spent some time on WUS years ago but left for a variety of reasons. Ultimately, I think the binding ethos of this place is a little more sustainable to community building.

If you're comfortable, send up some pics of your collection!

·

Have fun, share a hobby.

Welcome!

Have an account, but kinda got turned off by the rampant just use the search button weirdo responses. Or the unbridled hate for anything from a brand, just cuz one time, ten years ago they released something with QC issues.

Youll like it here, I promise! 🤙🏻🤘🏻

·

Sorry to hear about your ordeal, we get a lot of refugees... It's why we built this place!

·

Welcome. I became active on WC around 4 weeks ago and really enjoy it. In addition to it being I believe more welcome to open discussion, I think the WC the app makes the site much more user friendly.

·

Welcome to watch crunch! You’re going to have fun here!

Are they a bunch of snobby elitists over there??

·

Welcome to the friendly insanity! 🤙❤️🤙

Snobby isn't the right way to put it.

Lots of weird gate keeping, repeated comments about how the search bar exists (the utterly useless search function), and a lot of people who definitely gave the impression that you were wasting their time by asking frivolous questions.

If there's anything that annoys me about watch communities, it is that they tend to take this fundamentally unserious thing (little mechanical automatons on our wrists) and make it into a matter of life or death.

·

Welcome, it's a much nicer, more inclusive and far less toxic forum here. We all have different views but don't feel the need to get personal or knobby about it.

I left that forum after after being banned for posting this picture. They couldn't tell the difference between politics and human rights, and in effect backed the Qatar anti-free-speech position.

Ha! Says the guy who sweated blood and tears for four weeks to keep himself and a bunch of crunchers alive during the cruel ordeal known innocently as ‘the scavenger hunt’ 😂

Safe space…still experience existential angst when i get a message: ‘DeeperBlue mentioned you in a post’

@ OP: no worries m8, just some minor PTSD after an innocuous game of taking pictures with your watch in it :) And welcome!

Welcome @wexter

I've only been a member here for a few fun filled weeks but I can tell you it's a great place to escape the insanity of the outside world. So, kick off your shoes, relax and enjoy the comaradarie of a great bunch of watch geeks. 😀

If you want a good laugh and see how unserious we take ourselves, take a look at the madness that was #scavenger #hunt #survival

I share pretty much everytjing with the wife, including Google photos/maps, etc.

I mentioned this evening on our ruck training (she's gonna do a GoRuck with me this spring after some selection courses), how I won a badge and made some new friends on the ol WC.

She said yea, I noticed, there's a bunch of strange pictures in the photo library......🦄😉🤐

Ahhh, fan communities. There are some doozies out there. I was on an Indiana Jones community around the time of the latest film that bombed, and when a number of us pointed out all the things we didn't like about the the film (not just, "This film sucks, yo..." but long, thought out, critical comments, along with how we would have done things differently), there were a couple of moderators there - one in particular - who couldn't handle anyone saying the new film wasn't good. He'd obviously invested a lot of emotion into it, prior to release, and with it failing before his eyes, his only way to 'get square' with the universe was to go after people who didn't like the movie. Stupid, right? This is a community I'd been in for nearly 20 years, too. Never had an issue there before. But just goes to show, in my case, and in yours, when moderation goes wrong... when it's left in the hands of emotional jerks who can't compartmentalise their personal life and what it takes to moderate something... things go wrong. And when that happens, people leave.

Utilizing members to moderate is fraught with pitfalls. Luckily we utilize the latest AI killer robot technology, and he only gets emotional when we take away his death ray 🔫

Nice folks in the community - WUS is just one of many special interest message boards absorbed by the Borg that is Vertiscope. What used to be a board for hobbyists is now a "corporate" entity that does not make any/much money.

But anyway; lets talk about some watches!

I don’t own a citizen yet, but I’ve had my eye on this one specifically for about a month now. How’s it feel on the wrist? How’s the dial in person?

·

I love that this not only a community where you can post risqué opinions (like questioning Rolexes design language?) — but that you’re also safe to completely change your opinion 6 months down the road without being crucified. Especially, as a new watch collector, I don’t always know where the pitfalls are (and to be honest, I don’t know that I care).

But the more I learn about the hobby, the more I appreciate, so the opinions I thought I had on certain types/styles/brands are regularly changing and evolving. And WC is a chill enough community to allow for all of that, and even embrace it.

And we have a lot of fun to boot.

I gave up on WUS as it became a hive of elitism, something this hobby doesn’t need. Cheap Casios and Vostoks look great next to Rolex, Patek and the like. It’s about having fun and buying/wearing what you like. Not competing with the next guy to have the blingiest, most expensive next thing. WC is the epitome of this hobby: just having fun with your watches and enjoying other’s collections too no matter what’s in it

Had the opportunity to physically look, in a large number of stores and dealers, at a variety of mid-range and high end watches. The high end watches that sell over MSRP in aftermarket are few and far between.

At the mid-tier end I liked

Citizen Promaster Tough - BN0241-59H

LONGINES - Legend Diver 42mm Mens Watch - L37744902

Seiko Prospex SRPE37

At the high end I cannot pull the trigger on these watches which are readily availible

CARL F. BUCHERER HERITAGE BICOMPAX HOMETOWN EDITION-SAN FRANCISCO 10803.08.92.74, 40 mm diameter, Stainless Steel

JLC Polaris

The high end stuff I like is three years out, wait to get a call, or check in periodically. Perhaps the elitist stuff is born from that kool-aid.

The dial is spectacular -- the photo does not do it justice; it changes colors from blue and green which match the bezel. The watch wears smaller than it is. Its a standard type of case for citizen.

Welcome! The only thing missing here is a wtb/wts section! I’m sure they’ll get there eventually
