New Speedmaster 57 - Worth It?

Well, this just dropped! And so it's time for another of my IG-based Infographic series' entry.

Okay, can I just say I'm so relieved it wasn't the FOIS that got updated. I'm probably further saved by my skinny wrist, else this would have been another hole in my bank account.

I wonder:
1) Any of you think this new bracelet will fit the 3861 Speedmaster Professional? Some of my friends think it won't, but I might be hoping against hope.

2) Any of you likely to pick this new model up?

OMG!  This new Speedmaster '57 is amazing!

I'd originally purchased the 2015 version, and then very quickly discovered that it was way too thick (16.5mm) and way too long lug-to-lug (52mm) for my wrist, and sold it on.  But, in terms of looks, it was absolutely killer!

Dammit...  I think this one has got to be on my wishlist now!

I really want that bracelet even if I can’t pull off this watch! 😂

Too funny!  I imagine that the bracelet would fit the 3861.  I have the Chronoscope, and the micro-adjust is great.  But, at the moment, I prefer the watch on a strap, so it's kinda a moot point.

Regardless, I love all the innovation Omega is introducing!

Haha I have grand Frankenstein plans for a 57 bracelet and to hot swap the clasp from time to time to the 3861 bracelet. One can dream right? 🤣🤣

  1.  Case diameter is 40.5 vs 42 on the 3861 Professional - highly doubt it will fit properly, sorry.

Dude, you know that Omega will soon release a version of the new micro-adjust clasp for the Moonwatch.  I mean, they're getting so much positive feedback on it, they're definitely going to make it available.  And we'll all pay the $1,500 for the privilege!

·

I really love this piece.  I appreciate the Moonwatch but this really hits the mark with the updated size and manual wind. I wish the black dial had received the applied logo treatment that the colored dials received but all in all I think this is a win.  Also, I am one of the people out there who likes having a date...and this has a date.

·

It’s probably a trick of the light but it almost looks like the lume indices are cutouts like on a Panerai with the lume showing through from underneath the dial.  Anyone else see this or is it just me?

I can’t wait to get “the call”… for a new clasp because I‘ll buy it, yes I will.

Dude, I ordered the titanium mesh bracelet for my Seamaster 300M 007 back in October.  It still ain't here yet.  If we get the call, expect to wait at least 6 months for yours...  gosh, now I know what it must feel like to be a Rolex fan.  😜

Am I the only one who wishes that vintage re-issues or vintage inspired pieces would come with normal lume? I'm not a fan of the faux patina.

No - I’m with you, especially at the given price point.

Really liking this watch from what I've seen so far -- down on my list of watches to get though considering how early I am in my collecting journey! I think I'd still get an AT before this.

You are absolutely spot on on this! I didn’t notice it first time either.

I have a friend who ordered the 3861 bracelet for his 1861. took about 6 months and a lot of reminding for him to finally get it! So yes still a ‘shorter’ wait than most Rolex fan waits for the ‘call’!

I reckon it will mean they should also just turn all markers to white - I think there’s a market for both actually!

I know and don’t you dare cut me on the queue for a not yet released handcuff, I mean bracelet, I mean clasp 😂

Nice! It’s a long ever ‘self winding‘ journey! Which of the AT’s are catching your eye at the moment?

I wonder if the guys at the ’dink verified compatibility before writing and publishing this. What do you think @Omeganut ?

I think @Bryan1 is right.  There's no way that the end links on the 40.5mm new '57 will fit the 42mm 3861.

But, Robert-Jan Broer of Fratello has said a number of times that Omega are going to put the micro-adjust into a bracelet for the 3861.  And if anybody would know, it would be Robert-Jan.  I mean, Omega must EFF'ING LOVE that dude - the whole "Speedy Tuesday" thing has driven how much sales growth for them, right?

I mean, people are paying $1,500 for a titanium mesh bracelet for their Seamaster 300 007 editions, and there are very few of the 007 relative to the massive numbers of existing Moonwatches out there.  Even if only a small fraction of Moonwatch owners pony up for the bracelet, that's A LOT of money for Omega at $1,500 a pop!

Good info but still don't think the bracelets will swap directly due to the endlinks. the Clasp may be retrofitted though.  Love me some adjustable clasps :)

I like the small seconds sub dial, probably blue/white combination of some kind (there are so many variations)

I completely concur with your POV and always felt it was wishful thinking - but hey I'm a watch addict - so wishful thinking is what I do everyday! 😂

I actually sought out Robert-Jan to check also! He said he would check in with Omega HQ on SpeedyTuesday morning to get absolute clarity so let's see what transpires! 👌

For the record, I definitely will NOT be betting that it will fit. Better to save the money for the new clasp when it comes out specifically for either the 3861 or the Apollo XI 50th LE-type bracelet. 😜

·

A 13.9% price increase sounds like a lot, but there has been 20.3% inflation from the beginning of 2015 to 2022. Which means it’s basically a sale, from a certain point of view.

“Honey… I’ll be right back… There’s a sale at the Omega Boutique….”

Pretty sure the chronoscope clasp fits the 3861 bracelet. Just like some of the Seamaster clasps could fit the 1861 with proper end links.
