In my current sotc, all 100% purchased in second hand market (except from gifts). For mainly these reasons
1. Cheaper
2. I love to buy discountinued watches
3. I have no problem with "battle scars" as long as the dial is fine
4. I thought new watches are so shiny and blink ๐
What abour your preference and current sotc composition?

3 used purchases, 3 times problems. Never again for me
Only ever bought a couple new in the last 20 years ( king turtle and Murph, neither of which I kept.
Posted this on another thread, so excuse the repetition if you've already seen this , but in last 3 years -
Quartz Aqua Terra - ยฃ1300
Alpinist 1959 reissue - ยฃ350
Really, genuinely don't see any motivation to buy new ๐ค

Totally agree with you, with lower acquisition cost, it's also easier to sell it again (less loss) ๐ฅ
It has to be new for me. Blame the OCD..
About 50/50 for me, so far. I don't buy super expensive watches, but I love getting a deal. For watches I want to keep (as opposed to fix up and resell), if the person has the box it typically indicates they take care of their watches. So I look for the box!
Of the last 330+ watches have owned, am guessing has been about 85% new.
I have about 20 watches and just one of them I purchased used. A birth year Accutron. I have not worn it in years. I will eventually buy another birth year hand wind or automatic watch and part with the Accutron. It's nice and all but I just can't stand dealing with batteries.
I buy used because depreciation of most watches is huge.
