Swatch Pay: any experience?

Just got this Swatch with the Pay feature for my coming trip to South America. Might be good to have this rather invisible mode of payment on me at any time. Cool also to go running without a debit card in the pocket. The app is easy to use, in particular to suspend the pay feature at any time.

First impression is that this tic-tic noise is loud! I am more used to Omegas...

Let's see how it goes.. Any of you got experience with Swatch pay? Would this not actually be the absolute travel watch? Thank you for your feedback!

Swatch Pay is that like a new collab with Apple Watch?

No, it is not related to apple watch.. It's just a swatch with which you can pay, as some do with their phone, by contact.

Paying with a watch or phone is accomplished with an NFC chip, like the tap to pay feature on many credit/debit cards. It's not proprietary, Apple just likes to pretend it is.

I use NFC payments on my phone often and it works pretty well. It really comes down to the quality of the app, and in the case of a watch, the stability of the Bluetooth connection to your phone.

I suppose you could turn any watch into a payment device if you didn't mind slapping an NFC tag on the caseback. There's a project idea... 🤔

I've never used a watch for payment, but it seems like a good idea for traveling. Let us know how you get on!

Do you need to find a store that accepts swatch pay?

Any store that accepts debit or credit card would do!

Support varies by country. In the UK you have to have a Curve bank card to use Swatch pay. Not signing up for yet another bank 😅

·

This is the first I've heard of this and I think it's a great idea. I use my phone to pay all the time these days.

I don't really want a swatch right now, but i could see myself rocking the Basquiat perhaps

I saw the Basquiat at the store today, great choice! Just know that it's not stored with the other swtach-pay watches, it was in it own little corner with the "paintings" ones (but yes it has the pay feature).

Here in Switzerland it works with all the big names. You need to connect a credit card, debits would not be accepted.

Swatch supporting all Switzerland banks?? Quelle surprise! 😂

Seems like a risk with NFC scanners used by bad actors. I suppose other smart watch manufacturers have found a way to make it relatively safe, hope swatch did their homework. Cool mix between smart watch and regular watch though!

I don't have experience with Swatch Pay but applaud you using a digital, discreet way to access your account when traveling. As long as this method is secure and protected from hacking, I highly recommend it! I've seen too much fraud/robbery happen to folks while traveling. Bon voyage!

Thank you! Indeed this is the plan - discrete payments and not worrying about a wallet. A friend has been using it for a while and it works seamlessly. I will tell when back. Merci !

Just be careful for it to not be stolen, you would lose a lot more than a swatch.

·

My Swatch Big Bold is noticeably louder than any of my Timex watches. And they are supposedly the loudest ticking watch ever.

For me however, I don't have any luck with the tap to scan card readers around here. Some work, some are gimpy.

·

I hope people can't intercept your NFC signal with a skimmer.

First I've heard of it. Cool!

That… is pretty rad actually, I have not heard of this

Yeah. I realise tonight that this service is not available with any banks in the USA - no idea why. That might explain the relative low knowledge shared on swatch pay. Even here in Switzerland I rarely (if not never) see this.

Swatches are loud. They all are. I have had at least one on regular rotation since I was 12 so I obviously don't mind, but never encountered one that was quiet :)
