King Seiko 5625-7000. What are your thoughts on King Seiko's new releases?

King Seiko ref. 5625-7000 is undoubtedly one of the coolest watches out there. In fact, it's one of the rare gems in my collection that I can't get enough of.

This particular timepiece has a rare dial, featuring the words "Superior Chronometer" - a testament to its precision and accuracy. The sunburst finishing on the dial adds depth that can only be fully appreciated in person. Additionally, the polished faceted hour markers and hands are simply stunning. What really sets this watch apart for me is its meticulously crafted case. Although 36mm in diameter, it's considered large for its time, yet it's crafted in such a way that truly impresses. Furthermore, the case back bears a gold medallion that adds to its already impeccable design.

Despite never having been polished, this timepiece still looks absolutely fantastic and manages to make a statement on any wrist. It's also remarkably versatile, pairing perfectly with any leather strap (like this Full-Stitch Black Shell Cordovan) and looking great from any angle. And while it's a vintage piece, it's still very much relevant today - a testament to the quality and craftsmanship that King Seiko is known for.

As a fan of King Seiko watches, I'm curious to know: what is your favorite reference from the brand, and what are your thoughts on their new releases?

I love mine… it’s a re-issue and still learning more about the brand, I’m new to collecting and constantly learning from others…I’m also trying to source out a steel bracelet that would fit the case nicely, I don’t want to wore out the croc leather …

The original King Seiko models from the 1960s were great. Excellent finishing, fantastic movements. The modern reboot and its notoriously unreliable 6R31 can at best take their shinebox and give the originals a shoeshine. Even the limited edition with the 6L35 is lacking for the money - better specs can be found in Premium or Chronometer-grade Sellita SW300-1 with the upgraded mainspring barrel (power reserve up to 56 hours, with no reduction of frequency to achieve that), or in any ETA-made Longines L888 derivative, both of which have anti-magnetic hairsprings superior to Seiko's miserably outdated Spron alloy. To me, the modern King Seiko makes no sense at all, unless the buyer really doesn't care about the value for money factor.

I personally think it’s a missed opportunity to do something special. Here’s the one I owned.

Have you any experience with The Citizen? I’m finding it difficult to gather good intel and it seems similarly priced to the KS. Thx.

Lovely! Was eyeing a nice blue/gray version too. But a vintage GS popped up.

How’s it running?

5626-7000! Great choice! The 56 series movements are my favorite vintage Seiko movements. Nice finishing and cool architecture
