Breguet Type XXI Transatlantique 3810. What are your thoughts on the Breguet brand?

The Breguet Type XX/Type XXI collection, often overshadowed by the brand's other lines, holds a unique place in horological history. Originally designed in the 1950s for the French naval air army, these watches boast a distinctive flyback mechanism known as 'Retour en Vol'. The collection is divided into Aéronavale and Transatlantique lines, with the latter featuring a date indicator.

The 3810 dazzles with its polished surfaces, especially on the bracelet. Opting for a leather strap adds versatility, while making it a bit more understated. The 42mm case wears larger, feeling closer to 44mm, and the 15.4mm height definitely adds to that feel. The dial, crafted from rare ruthenium, exhibits varying hues depending on lighting conditions, complemented by Arabic numerals and diamond-shaped markers. The watch is powered by the 584Q movement, a cam-actuated chronograph with flyback and date complications.

Breguet is one of the best watch makers in the world, with a rich history.

The Watches Magazine did a cover story on the Type XX in it's autumn 2023 issue. It's a fascinating story, and in almost continuous production for 70 years (since 1954), not many brands can claim an accomplishment like that.

Yeah, i've had a bit of a thing for Breguet recently. Only really the Tradition range, getting all those motion works dial side is just mesmerising.

There are some killer deals on the transatlantic out there right now. Also some great deals on the new type xx and type 20 on the secondary market. I came really close to buying a 2057 just before buying my Marine 5517. I think I’ll own a type xx of some sort at some point. There’s so much to love across Breguet’s storied existence.

·

I had no idea they made this style of watch. Pretty cool! I tend to gravitate towards their more traditional designs.

·

Love Breguet, love the type XXI. Why I don't own one is vexing me as I type!

·

Love this watch but slightly different model ( 3810 Ti or limited Type XXI 3815 ). Criminally underappreciated model ( imagine Breguet flyback for app. 5k$, meaning same as used Tudor chrono or Speedy - madness ), same as whole Breguet brand.

Sometimes I wonder what the hell are executives at Swatch group smoking to leave such vast potential and historical significance on the table and as result destroy the brand in general. Such a shame, A.L. Breguet would be turning in his grave.

I just went back and looked at the updated 2057 on the new steel bracelet, got to say, this is a sharp looking watch. Unfortunately $23,200 USD is a little too much for my budget right now:

I have a type xx. Early one with gold capped crown and coin edge case.

It's a things of beauty. If you can get good deal on a used one you won't be disappointed.

People who know more than me about watches say good things about them on Youtube, and it's my dad's favorite brand.

For me personally they really just push/step over the boundary of sanity for what I'd be willing to actually pay for a wristwatch

You can find them slightly used for an absolute steal!

Saw one up close today and was sold. The rose gold is too much for me but the steel is perfect. Just a beautiful timepiece.
