My Top 3 Watch Regrets

I may get a little heat from this post. That being said, I’m thankful that this watch community is open to varying opinions and experiences in this beloved hobby of ours.

Full disclosure: I am NOT a watch snob. I’ve had cheap budget watches ranging from $10 Casios all the way up to my Omega Speedmaster and many varieties inbetween. I have loved them ALL. I even currently own an Invicta Pro Diver that I wear all the time for rugged outdoor activity. I’ve enjoyed owning a few budget homage watches as well, and there are some pretty good ones out there. There’s no shame here unless you buy or own fake luxury watches (that’s another story for another time).

All that being said… Here are my TOP 3 watch regrets:

  1. Buying watches from Ali Express. They were all defective and it was impossible to return them. I had to just live with it.

  2. Buying Parnis and Pagani watches. Again, all defective and all from Ali Express

  3. Publicallly mentioning that my biggest regrets are buying Pagani and Parnis watches from Ali Express.😳

Here come the tomatoes 🍅🍅🍅(*ducking) 😂

What are some of your biggest watch regrets?

I’ve had good luck with Ali Express (with the exception of Pagani). I don’t have many regrets. Mistakes are all good learning experiences.

·

Crazy how much care you shall take before stating your opinion. Are homage fans that easily offended? 🤔

·

My watches regrets were mostly on watches I did not try before buying: Yema, Serica, some stuff from Catawiki 😅

·

My regret when first staring was confusing quantity over quality.

·

Minor regret: running a sprint in 2022 instead of training for the marathon.

·

No real regrets…bought two Paganis from Amazon and they are amazing value. Also still very happy with the rest of the bunch. Only regret perhaps is not sharing as much as I could have about this new hobby with the missus; now slowly but surely repairing that :-)

·

I've had good luck with Ali. I have quite a few and not one problem. Really great watches for unbelievable prices. Will buy from Ali again and again

·

I've had no problems with anything from AliX, watches or other purchases. My Tandorio SKX and Benyar 'Milgauss' continue to be accurate to -1/+3 every 24hrs they're worn.

My only regrets so far: buying a Rolex OP which I really disliked and then got rid of within a year, in the days when they didn't retain their value; and not buying an AliX tourbillon which was limited edition and has been the only one that I've really liked.

·

I have no issue with homage watches. Was actually gonna buy a couple today. I didn't, bit I probably will. I'm sorry your experience wasn't what you wanted.

·

I bought a watch on impulse because I liked how it looked and when it arrived I put it on very excitedly just to realize it was about a 56mm DIAL not lug to lug. It worked great so I couldn’t return it. I for SURE started to realize I need to pay attention to what I’m getting.

Spending too much money on micro brands (sub 1k). If I were more patient I could have netted one more premium watch.

Good way of putting it Todd

My experience as well 👍🏼

Why buy a watch from Alixepress when you can make your own NH34/35/36 for the same or lower price, better quality, and give it the customization that differentiates it for the "clonages" on Ali?

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't have a good experience when buying from AliExpress.

When you say it was impossible to return them, did you open disputes for any of them directly with AliExpress? As this is the best way to sort out any issues. Don't bother contacting the seller.

I did open disputes with them every time. One certain dispute required that I show video that my GMT hand was not working. That’s a pretty daunting task if you ask me. It wasn’t enough for them to get the watch back and know that it wasn’t working. Plus, there was the time and distance involved. These watches were coming from China and so it was really hard to make a simple exchange. After a few weeks, I just gave up and took the loss.

I've had to return a few watches from AliExpress before and each time is been a pretty smooth experience. Far better than eBay for example. Yes, you have to provide pictures or a short video clip showing the issue. But that is understandable, as it's AliExpress, not the seller dealing with the dispute. Then once they have seen the evidence they will give you the option of a partial refund and keeping the item, it a full refund and return. Which is prepaid by them. Here in the UK, they also have a distribution centre too, so once my returned item arrived there, my refund was issued. I didn't have too wait until it got back to China.

Selling my Seiko alpinist

·

I bought a Breitling Superocean Heritage when a Sub was pretty much the same price and readily available back in the day. To be fair I still find the Sub boring in comparison but I sold the Heritage for a lot less than paid whereas the Sub could of bought me my whole current watch collection

This is true.

My biggest regret was buying a lot of used watches at an auction, I wanted to have fun with some interesting surprise, regardless of its value, but there were more than 100 watches and each one of them was pure trash, damaged or fake, I know..my bad!

·

A Tissot T-Race Chrono. It was expensive, quite big and I sold it at great loss (60% less).

Yeah that’s a mistake we’ve all made. We want watches and don’t have money for the ones we want. So we splurge on cheap watches and then aren’t able to sell them later. Build slowly over time. It’s not a sprint; it’s a marathon.

Regrets : bought one Pagani , used it for a costume, and now it hides in a drawer. As a blatant copy I don’t wear it, so no idea if it keeps good time. Quality is iffy but looks good from arms length

Will take it apart one of these days to remove the NH caliber I think

·

I bought two Paganis. Both were defective. However, A friend of mine gifted me his Pagani NTTD with a black strap. It was a nice watch. I enjoyed owning it for a season. However, at this stage of my journey, I’m shooting for higher quality watches even if it takes more time to build my collection.

·

I got my Pagani on AliExpress on the black Friday deal and it is working like a charm. I also figure it was only $40 so i don't expect it to last me a lifetime but, so far so good.

Glad for you. Guess the watch God’s were not in my favor.

Maybe you are just unlucky, sry..

I have bought Parnis and Pagani too some from AliExpress but mostly from Amazon.

I bought a Parnis Daytona (80€) and a Pagani Chronograph (30€) both with the Seiko mecaquartz a few years ago on AliExpress, both are well made and running flawlessly.

For Pagani i think IT is better to buy Off Amazon cause you can easily return it after your own quality Control.

The Pagani Speedmaster i bouth from Amazon is also very well made.

They even had the Apollo11 Limited Edition color option from Omega.

The prices arent much higher on Amazon than on AliExpress.

Sry for the shaky photo i tried to Not drop my Tablet hitting the Button with my nose hahaha
