I have a number of old worn watches keeping good time but no one wants them, even for free. What do I do with them?
I restored a 60s Citizen hand wind and a 80s Seiko 5 6309. Post restoration, they did not meet my expectation - from the persepctive of looks or feel or relevance to the times we live in.
On top of these, I have 3-4 quartz watches from Citizen, Titan and Timex - from 90s and 2000s - these are really worn well and show the wear and tear but maintain accurate time.
I tried listing them for dirt cheap prices and still there are no takers. I do not think spending anymore on beautifying them is going to be useful to anyone as their value won't improve anyway.
I have downsized my main collection and I feel guilty adding new watches with these backlog pieces still lying around. I rarely mod or experiment so I can't reuse the parts from these watches right away right now.
What do I do? Please share some useful ideas :)))))

Can you share some pics?
Is there a local watchmaker training school you could send them to?
If you want to expend the effort, sell them as a lot on ebay / Facebook / offerup. "Box Of As-Is Watches $50" etc. I'm always looking for these kinds of lots because I love treasure hunting and I hate having money apparently!
Do what the rest of us do - put 'em in a box under the bed/wardrobe/cupboard and forget about them for a few years.
At least that's what I do if I can't give them away! 😅
Yeah, share pics here. If you can't sell/gift them to this audience... I'll eat my hat (made out of macaroni). 😉🤣

I added a pic with some of those watches.

Absolutely love that titan
Auction it off here for charity. Surely there will be takers.
Why wouldn't anyone want that Seiko? If you were in India I would have taken that Seiko from you in a heartbeat. God Speed
PS: You are in India. Now how can I get that Seiko? I am not able to DM you. Let's talk price.
There's always a little Basket of Watches auction you could do for charity on WC.

I'm able to message you. Perhaps I haven't listed it for long enough on multiple platforms.
Charity auction here has worked well
Update:
Found takers for the green Citizen, white Titan retrograde. I have multiple enquires for the Seiko 5 6309. No enqueries yet for the Titan tank and the Citizen black-gold quartz.

Hi, what is the procedure for charity auction? I was able to sell only one watch so far...
Update - there were many enquiries, and two takers. One backed out. I have just downsized the set in the pics by just 1.

I’d check with @Mr.Dee.Bater or @Edge168n if you’re interested in doing so

It's inherently a bit uncertain this process, but I think there's a couple of modest takeaways
Give more value than you're getting. I tend to triple match any final bid to charity and post receipts in the comments as proof.
You gotta pimp out the auction hardcore. The success of an auction or charitable raffle is pretty dependent on how high you manage to get it on the feed the first day.
Bids are going to be low the first time. I don't really know how to avoid this frankly because a lot of bidding blind on a forum requires trust and there's no real way to establish that except by successful transaction. And there's probably a correlation with the number of followers you have and how many bids you get.
hope this helps!

Ah! Looks like a lot of work - thinking if the value of the watches match the time spent on worrying about them!!!

Thank you for the details!

There's no way to avoid it...it is a ton of work. But you occasionally get some awesome outcomes.
The last watch raffle raised $2000 for various charities which still blows my mind. I'm probably going to do a redux soon. The community is generally pretty amazing.
But totally would get if you decided to not do it. It's a job in itself.

Maybe for some other watches - these imo have reached their end of life because of negligence in the past. Otherwise I'd try it out on these watches.

I hear you. Handing a project to someone is not really my preference with this stuff as well.
Hope you do put one up at some point.
The big Catholic St. Vincent dePaul Society is worldwide, and if they have stores in India, they would be glad to take them.
Update:
I have successfully downsized all these watches!
