Watch nicknames

The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 ref T931.407.41.291.00 or the Tissot PRX with the brown dial and rose gold fluted bezel. Either way it’s a bit of a mouthful. I understand why brands have long reference numbers like this, but I also understand why the community likes to come up with nicknames for watches.

I certainly don’t have the influence to make this stick with the community, but for me personally, I may start calling this the Toblerone or simply Swiss chocolate.

The two tone color schemes are almost identical between the two. The somewhat squared case of the PRX could be described as chunky which is also a word you could use to describe the texture of the chocolate bar. There is golden honey in the chocolate and the bezel of the watch is 18k gold. One is candy, and the other is simply eye (or wrist) candy.

What do you think of this nickname for this watch? What are some of your favorite or least favor watch nicknames? I think the Seiko Tuna is one of my favorites. My least favorite is the Batgirl. I can’t figure out why the same watch on a different bracelet would get a different nickname. Maybe I’ll save the rest of my thoughts on that for a different post.

I really wish this 🍫 was in 35mm too!!

Cool Piece! These names are definitely a thing and brands should "shop" around nicknames. For this, I think the Swiss Chocolate would be my vote.

·

I think the Toblerone is a great name for a brown watch of Swiss origin. I really like the Seiko Arnie, which is also a Seiko Tuna!

The problem is, Toblerone will need to drop the Swiss label by 2023, as it is now also produced in other countries.

·

That's a good nickname for that watch. I give some of my watches nicknames too, sure there are a ton of GAS-100 G Shocks, but I call mine the UFO.

I hear that. They maybe will based on their recent releases, but I didn’t want to wait and see.

Thanks for the feedback and sharing your example! That nickname is definitely appropriate and no wonder it has stuck all these years.

With so many G Shocks I wasn’t familiar with that one. Looks great on your wrist and definitely a great nickname too. Thanks for commenting!

I was not aware of this. I have a little time to come up with a new name I guess 😂  Thanks for sharing. The more you know.

Thanks for the feedback! I kind of agree. Toblerone doesn’t really roll off the tongue too well either 😂

Love the thoughts and comparisons that went into that.

I call this watch the Aquaman for what I hope are apparent reasons.

I call all mine The Drainers.

This addic, cough, hobby, slowly drains the bank account.

That makes a LOT of sense. This Tissot is my only purchase this year. Trying to make it the rest of the year without buying another watch…so I can save money for a more expensive watch 🤦🏻‍♂️

I’m trying desperately to make this stick, so help me out.

That’s perfect! Not sure I am much help in getting it to stick, but I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one that thinks about these silly things.

I just bought my first Rolex yesterday. I’m already having buyer’s remorse, but eh, f it. I can’t take my money when I’m gone, right? That said, I can’t wait to welcome home the newest Drainer. Also, that Tissot is a solid buy. More so with that chocolate dial. Ooof.

Thanks and congratulations on your first Rolex! The watch I’m saving and waiting for is also a Rolex. I’m certain I’ll have some buyers remorse as well, but like you said we can’t take the money with us, and if worse comes to worse you probably won’t lose much money if you decide to sell it for whatever reason.

Precisely why I'm ok with the purchase. I won't lose out on the purchase if I decide to let it go. Which Rolex are you after?

GMT Master II (either the Pepsi or the Batman). I refuse to pay over retail so I’m playing the Rolex AD game wondering how much other products I’ll have to buy and how long I’ll have to wait before I get the call…

Nice. That's a great piece to own. Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long.
