I understand the point of getting deep experience in watchmaking can benefit the microbrand, but it requires R&D and prototyping on a level outside of startup finance. The current setup allows me to consider a wider palette of watches with is more significant from a customer POV.
A tried and trusted movement assures operational quality for me if I want to purchase from an unknown microbrand with almost no online community presence. A custom made movement would open another stream of quality concerns outside of the build quality for a small company.
Also, this argument could be widened: can we call Rolex a real watch company if they are not mining their own rare metals?
Seiko vk64, 290 usd, mineral but Sapphire coated domed crystal around 40mm case size (wears a bit larger, but form me it’s fine). There are more color variations, but they only made 1000 pieces for each versions (numbered in the back). The Braun and Tag Hauer inspired design just clicked for me.
Yeah, you’ll need corner notched bands. A lot of owners are putting Casio A168 bands/bracelets onto Q watches as it has the 18/20mm specs. Look around there maybe.
Got my anwser from a Reddit user, who contacted Timex. No luck, you’ll need to send in the watch in order to replace bands (I assume for warranty replacements mainly)
