Not to fully disagree with your point, but Hermes uses Vaucher movements which sometimes have modules by Agenhor/JM Wiederrecht. They also experiment with different materials.
Even though they don’t have an “in-house” movement, I doubt I’ll call them fashion watches in the same way as something like Ralph Lauren (which has a watch with a JLC movement) as they never put out a horologically uninteresting watch in their catalogue.
