Fashion Watches

The stigma attached to fashion watches can be a little tough to explain. Tougher still is where the line is drawn between them and ‘legit’ watches. Is it the brand? Is it the craftsmanship? Expense? These are a few offerings from traditional fashion houses which I think are gorgeous and easily satisfy my watch nerd curiosity. Are these still stigmatized because of their heritage?

Hermes I’d consider fashion. Cartier and Bulgari manufacture some serious movements I wouldn’t consider those two fashion

I think the question should be "why do people spend €300 on what is clearly a mass produced €75 watch simply because it has Michael Kors printed on the dial"?

I think it would be the same as buying a 900,000 $ watch even though its better crafted theres no way its close to that price in labor and costs!

I think it really depends on the craftmanship of the watch and ive heard that Hermes is climbing the ranks and so too with bulgari and there ultra thin watches!

I think you're being very generous with €75, I'd say closer to €20 for a Michael Kors, Armani, Tommy Hilfiger etc.

All watches are fashion watches… you’re all being played.

The Cartier watches are just so iconic, it's only the longstanding fashion watch worthy of spending money on. Newer fashion designers will never be able to match up to Cartier 😍

Not to fully disagree with your point, but Hermes uses Vaucher movements which sometimes have modules by Agenhor/JM Wiederrecht. They also experiment with different materials.

Even though they don’t have an “in-house” movement, I doubt I’ll call them fashion watches in the same way as something like Ralph Lauren (which has a watch with a JLC movement) as they never put out a horologically uninteresting watch in their catalogue.

The H08 has an interesting and serious movement … imo…

As well as Piaget and Chopard and even though it’s not my cup of tea… LV ‘s watches are some serious contenders as well …

👀 for Louis Vuitton coming on strong the next years. Just a guess. Speaking of guess and fashion watches, I submit to you a vintage 27 year old Guess Waterpro quartz watch. 38mm case and only 44mm lug to lug. 50m water resist and a charmingly balanced white dial🤌🏽

Bulgari, Hermes, Cartier and yes even LV are creating beautiful watches. I think the lines between "fashion watch" & Haute Horology are bluring.

The watches on your photography hardly comply as “ Fashion watches” now Richard Mille would be a fashion watch in this list also , Hublot is a fashion watch ….

Especially as a number of “luxury” brands are owned by LVMH… it only seems fitting that the watches certain brands release are more “watch-y” and that the watches themselves are deemed more “fashionable”. Depending on how snobby you are, that’s where the stigma is generated, and as this is the internet this is a no win situation. Someone will be saying that Cartier have done well over the last five years coming from a borderline fashion watch for the ladies to an horological powerhouse on here soon, we’re due that post again. Nonsense.

Essentially - this is another “lets put / can we put Cartier and Bvlgari in the same bracket as Michael Kors or Armani”, or a variation on that theme. It’s tiring.

Hermes has some great movements. Sure they are not in house but made with care. There entry lvl dress watch has a microrotor movement with what can be argued better finishing then Omega and Rolex.

I guess to some extent depends how you look at it. I grew up around fashion watches. What matters as long that it tells time. For example Fossil love it or hate gets a bad rep. But over all it’s a far out decent watch for most is a fashion watch it has decent specs on it. Nobody speaks about Swatch when it first came out it was drawn on the fashion side. Not saying it’s a fashion watch how dare me say that! If you like dressing cool and stylish color outfits a cool fashion watch fits in. Let’s see I own a Diesel, Náutica a watch my friend gave me called American Exchange ugly as hell but it’s a gift from a good friend I’ll accept it. And a got a Fossil on the way. So I still have a soft spot in my heart for certain fashion watches. Remember love it or hate it’s all about the looks and time.
