Which Tudor Master Chronometer?

I had the opportunity to see both the Black Bay steel (black on black) and Black Bay Ceramic. Both are METAS certified Master Chronometers. I am trying to decide which I might want to have in my collection. I like them both a lot. I think the standard steel looks like any other black dial watch. The ceramic is unlike what many companies are doing. It's not a Rolex nod either. I am leaning towards the ceramic, but I would love to hear what you all think. What are your thoughts on these?

I think if I had the cash to afford a Tudor I would probably get a Nomos or a Longines.

The all black look is never gonna be for me. It’s cool looking but a bit novel or maybe trendy is the word I’m looking for. The steel and black is a classic. It’ll always be nearly perfect looking.

Would you choose #tudor for that watch or another brand though?

Do the one you like!

100% Tudor. I am considering a few as my next watch, that BB41, a Pepsi gmt, or a Pelagos. I think Tudor is making the best product in its price point, big fan. That new BB41 monochrome is boring and perfect.

I definitely will. I like color and uniqueness (you can see my WRUW). The ceramic stands out to me. Always curious to see the community responses...AND I haven't done a poll yet here.

I totally agree with boring and perfect. I tried it on and loved it. My husband wasn't a fan (not a watch person). I feel like I would wear the monochrome all the time, but at the same time I would want more. Thanks for the responses!

If the ceramic was all black it would be the pick. The white line detracts for me. Of the choices the monochrome. I'd go the GMT overall.

Great, love to see the pictures😀

·

I was really impressed with the ceramic one when trying it on in person.

I'll post which one I get on a #nwa & #wruw for sure! Most likely this weekend.

It looks so much better in person!

·

I’ve tried on the ceramic and that baby absolutely slaps!

·

I would probably get the ceramic. But, I already have "regular" stainless steel dive watches in my collections, and so I would be looking at the purchase more from a "variety in the collection" perspective.

If it were going to be my first or only dive watch, I would get the stainless version.

I appreciate your encouraging unsafe behavior! 😜🤣

@swim97 Based on your preference for unique, I'm surprised it's even a question.

The BB monochrome looks like yet another black dialed submariner style watch (how original), whereas the BB ceramic is— as you tend to prefer— pretty unique.

Another framework to think about it: how easy would it be to find an alternative option for the BB monochrome vs an alternative for the BB ceramic? There are numerous alternatives to the BB monochrome, but not so much for the BB ceramic.

The BB monochrome is a fine and very versatile watch, but your collecting style isn't based on making a few versatile watches check many boxes; your collection might benefit more from pieces that anchor a particular mood/aesthetic.

BB ceramic, definitely.

It depends on what you want. The Ceramic is unique. The all black look is still legible, and the combination of matte and polished ceramic surfaces really make it stand out. The blacked out movement visible through the case back is also so cool. I almost bought one last year, but got cold feet. Though I love my Pelagos 39 (which I wouldn’t have bought if I had gotten the Ceramic), I’m pretty sure I would’ve been quite happy with the Ceramic had I pulled the trigger instead.

The Monochrome, on the other hand, is not particularly unique: it’s very much a mainstream, “boring” pick. That’s not a bad thing, necessarily; it depends on what you’re looking for.

I’d argue the Monochrome is the ‘stealthier’ of the two. There really is nothing stealthy about an all black watch - it’s different, it’s going to stand out - while a watch that looks like many other divers from afar is going to be a lot less noticeable.

@GoldenWatchRetriever you are now my favorite account. Those pics of watches with your dog makes me smile.

I wasn't really looking the group to make my decision. I am looking for more data on why the BB steel monochrome is so popular when the market is crowded with similar styles (certified and not).

I like unique so ceramic is definitely what I like.

Appreciate the comments. I am not looking for stealthy. ;-)

But seriously as a one watch collection maybe the steel 41. As part of a larger collection, the ceramic

·

The 41mm BB wears huge. Flat case, flat lugs and is a brick on the wrist. Owned both the blue and the gilt/red when they came out.

Get a 58. You can thank me later.

I’m a proud owner of the ceramic. Two years now. I got rid of my date sub because I just like the “stealth look”. To most it looks like a gshock. But that light play on the ceramic surfaces is unique. I have a bb gmt as well. Get the ceramic!

I have larger wrists and wear watches this size a lot. I think this is good perspective for many people.
