I was gifted a Casio Pro-Trek PRW-3000 when I graduated high school, which I wore every single day for at least 10 years. Eventually, it started to fog up (due to a crappy repair job from some mall watch repair shop); it definitely would have lasted a lifetime, I think, had I not had a botched repair job. So I started looking into my next watch, with the intention of finding another watch that could do it all ๐๐ณ... Yeah, that didn't happen; I have several watches now, mostly Casio, although I'm definitely going to be adding some Orient in soon. For me, watches are tools first and fun fashion pieces second. Probably why I like Casio ๐ ; I like the peace of mind and the simplistic, disconnected technology compared to all the other technology out there these days. I mostly have quartz watches due to the no-fuss durability and affordability but can definitely appreciate mechanical watches. My favorite watches are going to have great functionality, great value for the price, and look great as well. My favorite features in a watch are: Analog display (although I like the features of digitals so I have a bunch), day and date complications, stopwatch, multiple daily alarms with a snooze alarm, hourly time signal, world time with world time swapping, and countdown timer. I do like having lots of features but ultimately, I mostly use my watch for telling the time. Analog watches have grown on me quite a bit as you kinda don't really need features like stopwatches and timers as you can just use the markers for reference.
Interested to know how you all feel about the Casioak. Mostly referring to the GAB-2100. This is mostly just how you feel about the watch more than an objective review. Do you see it as the best of bo...
Hey! So, about the Casioak โ I gotta admit, I'm a bit of an outlier here. Seems like most folks rave about its style but gripe about its functionality...
The watch that started it all for me. This was my one watch collection for 10 years. Casio Pro-trek PRW-3000
The watch that started it all for me: my Casio Pro-Trek PRW-3000. I wore this watch every single day for at least 10 years. I never once had to charge...
Yeah I usually hear a lot of complaints about the legibility, usually about the small screen. But for me it is actually my most legible watch to read(I am a recent convert to analog this has been my gateway๐ ). The screen is small but I mostly just use the screen for the date anyway and it's at least bigger than a typical date window. Plus I really don't seem to ever need the screen I just view it as an analog watch with a neet digital date window and alarm and world time swapping functionality that I use with the app๐คท. So, I really never even use the screen except for the date. And other than the screen the analog display is so much more legible for me than my digitals. I always thought when people refer to the viewing angle problem with digitals that it was a bit of overanalyzing. But it is actually really nice being able to just read the time from weird angles๐ . Like driving I don't even lift my hand I can just glance at my watch and see it. Sounds silly to say but I do somehow appreciate that convince after using digitals for so long๐
I think Orient is such an amazing brand. Personally I find it more impressive engineering to come up with such amazing designs and quality while working within a budget than to design an amazing watch with an unlimited budget. They also have very original designs in my opinion which is really impressive given there are so many watch brands out there.
I agree, I wear my 5610 the most but if I were to need to wear gloves I would break out my 6900. Or I do kinda seem to prefer the 6900when working out just because if I am active it is nice to be able to quickly press a button with no struggle. I usually prefer low profile watches that don't get caught on my sleeve when wearing long sleeves but there are also some situations like again when I workout where I actually like to have the bigger size to block my sleeve so I can more quickly raise my wrist to check the time vs having to pull sleeve up every time.
I would say it's because the 6900 has a bit more going on with the design than the 5600. Personally my preference is the 5600 but I like watches that are fairly subdued but still interesting to look at. I would say the 5600 is more low profile and more understated but not boring in my opinion. However the 6900 definitely pops a lot more and has a more complicated looking dial. Which also gives designers a bit more to work with which is why it seems to be the most popular for custom or collaboration limited releases.
That's my guess anyways๐
