You aren’t a real collector until you’ve done this

So I’ve done the thing I said I should never do - rebuy a watch I’d previously sold.

This is the Glashutte Original SeaQ panorama date in blue. I owned one last year but sold it, partially because I needed the funds and partially because I found it too big. 43mm diameter, 51.5mm lug to lug, and a beefy 15.6mm thick. Certainly borderline on my 16cm wrist.

Well the watch never left my mind, and it periodically resurfaced from my memories to remind me what I missed about it. The fantastic build quality, the precision engineering in the movement, the beautiful sunburst blue dial. 100 hours of power reserve. The big date. The brilliant micro-adjust clasp that works on the fly.

I spent a lot of time mulling over and trying the smaller 39.5mm edition of this watch. However when a used SeaQ panorama date came up locally, in excellent condition (arguably better than my one when I sold it) and at a fantastic price - I couldn’t resist and snapped it up.

So how many of you have ended up with the same watch twice? Or more!? And how did it fare after the second honeymoon phase was over?

I already know I'm not a collector. I don't even have anything that is worth selling. Don't miss any that I gave away. Out of sight, out of mind.

I sold my 90s era Cartier TT Santos for a few hundred dollars more than I paid because my wife and I were newly married and needed to buy every household item from scratch, suddenly a first daughter joined us. The Cartier was not the only timepiece that I sold but certainly the one that I missed. I have since purchased two later iterations of the Santos and will continue to be vigilant for new models of the same famous first wristwatch.

Not a real collector then…I run the Hotel California

Sorry, no such experience here! So, I guess I am not a real collector. I am a flipper, for sure! 😱🤷🏽‍♂️🤭

·

Lol my current journey is rebuying watches I TRUTHFULLY loved. Most recently a Tissot PRX and a Seiko 5 GMT(this is the 3rd one)… sapphire sandwich next🤔? Idk….

My next purchase is the SeaQ Pano.

An absolutely beautiful piece and worth buying back! Would love to try one out at some point. Congrats on getting it back!!

You aren’t a real collector if you let a GO go! Nah, just kidding. Mostly 😂. I get it that sometimes life requires freeing up cash - and watches are just watches. But letting that one go…ouch. Great that you got it back! Have no similar story; only six months since the bug bit me / no selling of watches yet!

Beautiful! And...I've thought about it (GS manual wound jade on beads of rice that I sourced- that one haunts me a little bit) but haven't rebought the same watch (yet)

Love my SeaQ 39. It’s amazing. Perfect and the bracelet omg

·

Too many times to count. Every single time I wind up flipping them for a 2nd or even third go.

·

I made sure to sell only wristwatches that I won't miss beforehand

·

You can’t let this GO now 😂🙌

I guess I'm not a real collector yet. But if I ever do end up needing to liquidate watches for life reasons, the Glashutte with be the last to go and the first to be re-bought when life stops getting in the way.
