Horage Supersede

Just received my Horage Supersede from the FedEx guy today!

Horage is a small independent from Biel in Switzerland; I first came across them when Watchfinder reviewed their Tourbillon One in 2021.

Their next watch was this Supersede model, with an in-house, micro-rotor movement, true GMT, date, power reserve, and 200m water resistance. Oh and it is COSC certified too.

They did a few rounds of pre-orders since announcing this watch in 2021, and I signed up in August 2022. It was supposed to arrive earlier but they had some delays at COSC.

Obviously it's too soon to do an objective review on it, but so far it feels good. Nice and thin (10.3mm thick), diameter 39.5mm with 46mm lug to lug. The unidirectional bezel is ok (has a bit of play) but the movement side is beautiful.

In the box there is the watch itself, a brown leather watch pouch, the additional rubber strap (if you ordered it), and a lug tool to remove the bracelet bars (shame the bands aren't quick release).

Just wanted to share my first impressions.

Looks fantastic, I remember seeing the first horage watch reviewed on ablogtowatch and was really impressed. Enjoy it!

Congrats! are you early bird or dreamy bird? I got a note from them that mine will ship in Aug. Glad to hear that people have started receiving them.

I think it was sleepy bird (not 100% sure). I ordered August 2022 though. Hopefully yours is coming soon!

Congratulations on a beautiful timepiece.

From the front it looks like a diver version of the PRX but on steroids.

But from the back....oh boy...that's sexy

I have to know -- does the movement hack?

Yep

It's a bit weird to me that Horage doesn't have more coverage. I found what they do is really cool. Much more impressive than a lot of media darlings.

I think they do almost no marketing. They send pre-production samples to the watch review sites and that’s it. I do think they have room to improve on that front.

I’m eagerly awaiting my transatlantic blue from the dreamy bird tranche of preorders!!! Looks sick!!!

Their offerings struck me more as quirky demo pieces rather than watches that they are super keen on selling. Facetet sapphire, magnified tourbillons, some photography stuff... it's all super niche. So little effort is put towards marketing them to consumers. Now the Supersede happens to be a handsome watch but I'm pretty sure it serves a dual purpose in demonstrating the full capability of their modular K2 platform paired with real world feedback, great if you're trying to sell someone on the idea of using your movements.

I mean don't get me wrong, they do sell a pretty solid consumer product but it feels like they much rather sell technology and know-how than watches. Like they did with Bremont and their "in-house" movement.

I don't know if that's such a good business idea, I guess they will know better than me. For what it's worth, Monta tried going the quirky route with Eterna movements and almost went bust because of it. Not sure how many micro brands there are keen on such adventures after that and the big names will probably do their own thing with in-house being such a big selling point these days.

Not much to disagree with. They definitely have more of a watch tech company vibe than being watch design firm. Which is of course exactly their background and origin.

But at least they have the technical and in-house know how already. I’d love for them to hire a few strong designers and really take the company to the next level. A few more mass market designs coupled with their in house movements and good quality finishing might really take off.

However I think their production capabilities are still somewhat behind. This watch was behind schedule shipping, as was the previous Tourbillon 1 project.

Yeah they might need a bit of practice here and there. I recall the initial drafts of the Supersede had those case grooves which they had to do away with because how they rendered it on a PC just wasn't possible to machine. So it would have to be blasted (ugly) or a multi piece case (expensive) or something along those lines. I think the crown guard would look better if they came straight out the case but ignoring that, before one starts designing intricate cases one needs a very solid understanding of what can be done at the price point you are targeting, or why even bother. They will get there eventually, I believe. Getting real world feedback during the design process of the supersede was a good move probably. They hired that Scottish dude from the podcast quite recently, so they are making moves. I hope the right ones...

I guess it's just normal not to get everything perfect the first time around but, although not perfect, I think the Supersede overall turned out better than okay, at least that was my impression when I held it 🍻

I just got the notification that mine is shipped out. I had to fill out the 5106_US and Horage gave me what I need to fill and email address to send it to. It’s at a fedex facility in NJ. Those of you in the US who been through this process, any issues? How long did it take for CBP to release it ? I have bought a few watches from JP and other countries, and this is my first time having to fill out customs forms.

I guess I was the last to the party despite being the first day of the last pre-order window...They were telling me it'd ship out on the tenth but haven't heard back...I know its a process and everything but I am going away right during the shipping window which is super annoying....

did you email them? they do reply (tho sometimes that is also a little slow...!)

I have been back and forth with them for 6 months lol. They have top notch service but I never wanted to rush them. Turns out they could only ship while I was out of the country. Thankfully my friend was able to receive it and he’s bringing it over when I get back
