State of the Collection— Help me reduce my collection

Hello all! Today i’m sharing every watch in my collection. I need help reducing to a 5 watch collection plus a casio. I have college coming up and could use some extra cash.

I feel like things have gotten a little out of hand with collecting and am curious what you all would pick as your core 5 out of my watches.

From left to right and top to bottom we have:

1. Seiko srpg33- was my first ever watch

2. Seiko srpk 29- high school graduation gift

3. Seiko Ginza

4. Seiko Castle in the sky- first grail watch

5. Casio calculator- gift from my sister

6. Casio royale- gift from my brother

7. Casio g shock dw5600 gift from sister

8. Tudor black bay 54- Just purchased :)

9. Tudor prince oysterdate 34mm

10. Takeo kikuchi moonphase chronograph- recently was in hospital. Bought while i was high on pain killers at 3 am in the icu after surgery lol

11. 14k omega tank with diamond indices- was my late grandfathers watch that my dad gifted me

12. Omega moonswatch pluto

13. Luminox diver- grad gift from a teacher

14. Paw patrol watch- grad gift from a junior high small group i helped lead.

My current thought is the moonswatch, ginza, bb54, takeo kikuchi, and my grandpas watch. Then keep the g shock. But the sentimentality is keeping me from selling the others

Would you replace any of these? Or add anything? Which 5 would you keep?

Sell or give everything but number 3, 8 and 11 would be my choice!

·

Keep everything with a story or sentiment. A casio isn't worth selling if you have Tudor BB money. Anything valuable keep until you REALLY need the money, even if the value drops, $1800 when you need it is worth more than $2300 when you don't.

·

I would suggest to put the gifted watches, at least those who have sentimental value to you, in a separate box and don’t count it torwards your goal of a 5+1 watch collection.

The reason is obvious: beside maybe the omega tank, you will receive very little cash out of selling those, and later in life may regret giving away gifts from close relatives for a few hundred (at best) bucks. Not a good deal.

However, to unclutter your thoughts about the 5+1 collection, you may even store them separate.

Wait so 7/14 watches are gifts or passed down??

Agree to separate these and store away.

So then you really only have 7 watches remaining. Probably not going to make too much out of that. But I would start thinking about operating on a one in/one out model, just to make sure that things don't get out of hand.

·

I love how all the Casio's were gifted. That makes my heart warm as a brand that is known by 'watch people' to have a seat at the table enough by their family and that is certainly attainable enough for all wallets. Casio for the win. (That collection brudda is bad ass!)

·

Definitely keep the Omega square, BB54, and Ginza. Then decide on the 2 which have the most sentimental value to you.

I honestly feel like if something bad happened those would be the only ones I’d be sad abt losing!

Haha ik the Casios aren’t. They just take up space. Thanks for the advice! I’m not hurting hurting for cash. It would just be nice having the financial security of having that money available?

That’s probably wise. Don’t want to make things awkward lol. I’ll try to set them aside, I just get anxiety looking at all the gifted ones sometime when I’m thinking abt my collection. But thanks for the advice!!!

Paw patrol watch is lowkey a sleeper pick😂😂😂 Loved seeing what you’d keep and what you’d sell! I will say tho, the takeo kikuchi landed me a date with a girl I knew from highschool. I got her number the same night I purchased the watch lol. Been going strong so far😙😝

Yea that’s what I’ve been doing! One in one out. I’ll probably store those gifted ones away. They feel like they’re getting more out of hand than the core collection. But picking from 7 is a lot less stressful. Thanks for your input!

Mhm! My family thinks my watch hobby is weird, but they still love me enough to support it😂 They don’t understand my 4k bb54, but a digital Casio they are willing to buy😉 And thank you! It’s just my humble collection. Trying to downscale it a bit but I’m having a hard time deciding which to part with (besides the gifted ones, they’ll prob stay)

Thanks for the input! Those 3 are so good together honestly that I wouldn’t be deveststed abt losing the rest

Lol. Another keeper!

Why?

·

Keep the gifted one, trust me

·

Definitely keep the Ginza, BB54 and the Omega. Gifts are emotionally harder to sell, but if they weren't gifted, I wouldn't hesitate selling the remaining Seikos and the Luminox.

The Casios and the Paw Patrol are probably cheap enough not to make big difference.

·

I’m way too sentimental to not keep gifted pieces and your first watch. 10 is a hilarious purchase love it

·

Very nice collection 👌🏻

Love Tudor date👏🏻

I would sell much, maybe a few Seikos, with no significant sentimental value

·

4 8 9 10 11 would make a killer collection

·
UnholiestJedi

Keep: AE-1200, grandpa's Omega, the SRPK, the Tudor Prince.

Everything else should go.

You're entering college. You can use as much spare cash as you can get your hands on.

Realest comment. I already started listing some

·

Sell all the Tudor and buy something which is actually good like a Casio Oceanus instead. Nah, even better, just sell all of them and buy a haggis.

Oceanus i can get on board with. But a haggis😳😳😳

Seeing a lot of ginza bb54 and omega combos. Thinking that’s the way to go

Same. I just can’t bring myself to sell them. Also 10 is iconic, so i am leaning towards Ginza, bb54, omega, and the takeo kikuchi. Then retiring the rest

Thank you! That’s what i’m thinking. Def a few seikos will be leaving. Tudor date is classy, but that might go as well since it occupies a similar spot the ginza does

Ooo, i like that combo! Man, i think this post just confuses me more lol

Good choices. Agree with other comments here that practically you don’t need all those watches and nice to have the cash. Good luck with school- feel free to reach out if you need anything related to science classes. Taught and tutored a bunch of them

Omg that would legit be so dope. I’m majoring as a civil engineer so i might need it😝

Keep the sentimental value watch as a base and build more memories with it *that's my strategy…i guess?
