Datejust

I’m debating between a datejust with a fluted bezel and a smooth one I understand the difference I just want to know how the smooth one ages is it a scratch magnet?

Any polished bezel will attract scratches. It's just the nature of a highly polished material.

·

Datejust on a fluted bezel is the best way in my opinion.

·

No experience, just theorising: Flutes, by virtue of visually breaking up the surface, may hide scratches better than a smooth one.

·

Go datejust go fluted, nearly every watch has a smooth bezel 👍

My own experience with the Datejust: fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet

Smooth bezel oyster style bracelet.

Years ago my nephews purchased 36mm Datejust watches to mark attending my wedding chose gold fluted bezel with steel case and oyster bracelets, almost 40 years later the watches are just timeless. You cannot make a mistake either way.

I have the smooth bezel, I think it gives it a more sportier, modern look. It will scratch within the fist 15 mins of wearing it, same with the high polishing on the clasp. So just don’t worry about it too much, easier said than done of course.

I think to answer your question, it'd be important to know if you are getting a jubilee or oyster bracelet.

Fluted bezels generally pair better with the jubilee bracelet and smooth bezels with the oyster.

You can of course swap them over, vice-versa but that's the traditional pairings.

My smooth bezel is fine after 4 years. But I also have a 10 watch core collection so it's not worn everyday. I also prefer smooth as I find it more versatile. Fluted is more popular as well, another reason I went the other way. Both look great and I'll eventually buy a fluted.

I can’t tell is it beat up bad?

·

Two tone fluted is the way to go IMO

·

Fluted is the way for a DJ - it's fluted pattern iconic to Rolex IMO.

No very little wear

Is it a daily?

It was my only watch for 10yrs needed service so bought something else to use , got it serviced and sold it for what I paid for it to fund something else.

I’ve had a Datejust 41 smooth bezel jubilee for a year or so now and it’s held up very well. No major scratches or dings. The polished clasp has a few noticeable scratches though.

If you get a watch with a lot of polish it’s kind of what you sign up for. I thought it would annoy me but I love the watch when I wear it so it doesn’t in the slightest.

Good luck deciding. It’s a great watch so you can’t go wrong whatever you choose.

I ve got one from 98, reference 16234 with a fluted bezel and it is still absolutely stunning. Since I already have the smooth bezel on my OP, the DJ had to be with a fluted bezel.

How is your op smooth bezel aging?

The OP is still new but hasn‘t aged that much since it is a watch from 2017 or 2018 (I am not sure). But compared with the older model DJ it looks of course very fresh although as you could see on the DJ, also the DJ is doing fine.
