Marathon General Purpose

Finding myself really drawn to this one. What I'm finding particularly appealing is the Tritium tubes, the sapphire crystal & the unique look and colour of its case.

My hang ups are the water resistance (50m) and it's size, especially the 16mm lug width. (wtf)

I’m a fan of it. If you are in a position to pick one up, I say do it.

I considered one, before going with a Navigator(and then a GSAR) instead.

I’m so totally on board right up until that 16mm lug width. Abort! Abort!

I was down in Trenton on TD, and asked to exchange my old worn out CADPAT, the Avr behind the counter grabbed some nearly as worn stuff to give me, when a Cpl came by and said "I think I have all new stuff in the back". She came back with shiny new CADPAT still in the plastic...

I haven't had CADPAT that new since I was a new Cpl back in '05 and we got our initial issue.

I own a GSAR and love it. Marathon builds tool timepieces. If any watch could live up to 50 meters it would be a Marathon. The Tritium is awesome. I get the 50m water resistance. I was thinking WTF as well when I first saw the specs. @KristianG owns my two favorite Marathon pieces & it appears the most vividly CADPAT printed DEU on the planet! My time we only had BDUs . I digress. There are quartz SAR Marathon watches that may interest you as well if the 50m water resistance makes this model a hard pass.

I was gifted a Luminox a few years ago that I never wore. I just couldn't get past all the fake tactical military hype around that watch since it's release. Three months ago I pulled it out of a safe and started wearing it. The Tritium lume on that watch is awesome. The watch is super light & the rubber strap is super soft. I mention this watch as a alternative to the Marathon for Tritium at a reasonable price: I think Amazon would land one at your doorstep for $300...maybe? Dont buy from the Luminox site! The same watch is $ hundreds less elsewhere. You have too many model options to mention. The watch is tough as nails. I disrespect the hell out of mine and it's unscathed. Yes it's plastic. So is a Monnswatch and people love them. This watch is less $ and far more functional. 200m water resistance BUT no screw down crown. Another WTF ? Moment. Doesn't really speak well to their dubious claim of being a watch preferred by many military forces. Sigh and who cares. Anyway, it's a Tritium option.

I wore my GSAR today. Actually, this watch gets the most wrist time

I hope you find a Marathon you like. Great watches!

It's a unique looking watch for sure. The 50m WR is actually not that uncommon of a field watch that isn't supposed to be used in aquatic environments. The 16mm fixed lugs are a bit more of a problem and personally I would try an Erika's Originals, their straps saved many of my watches from being relegated to spend time in a drawer.

But the main issue is about the intent. Are you interested in the look or the purpose? because the purpose of this watch to be used by soldiers in the field is gone and is irrelevant when you can buy a much sturdier and useful G-Shock and keep two more as spares in your pocket or pack for the price of a single Marathon GP.

The look of it. When I was an infantryman I wore something much sturdier indeed.

I'm still in the service tho and I like the military asthetic of this watch very much
