Timex Expedition T45181
I remember that my first watch that I bought with my own money was a Timex Expedition in 2005. I felt nostalgic and wanted to give this Timex a chance. This got delivered today.I know it won't be as reliable as a Casio but I will be happy if it lasted a few years.

Because, in terms of durability, no one can really match Casio. Timed have bucked up their game, but not Casio levels of durability

I use mine only for gardening (most weekends) and DIY (never ending), and it's survived many hard knocks and still looks like it did when I first put it on. Except for the strap, I couldn't get along with that so it got swapped out.

I have seen a couple of people having problems with their Weekenders . Specifically, the detachment of the seconds hand. I am hoping the current QC standard for the Expedition line is better.

There are lots of examples of broken Casio watches as well. Anything made in the thousands will have the odd QC issue.

Timex makes watches equivalent to G-Shocks, and G-Shocks aren't functionally more durable than most digital watches.

Timex is most definitely not equivalent to G Shocks, at all. If we take the Timex Expedition and compare it to a G Shock, the G Shock has higher water resistance, better shock protection, a stronger backlight with Casio Electroluminescent backlights, and has the perks of a digital watch. This is coming from someone who adores the Timex Expedition series of watches.
Timex is most definitely not equivalent to G Shocks, at all. If we take the Timex Expedition and compare it to a G Shock, the G Shock has higher water resistance, better shock protection, a stronger backlight with Casio Electroluminescent backlights, and has the perks of a digital watch. Water resistance is 99% a marketing fluff spec. A digital watch doesn't need strong shock resistance, your wrist can't take more than what a normal digital watch can take.
Again, I'm not saying Casio is bad. I'm saying Timex is every bit as good, particularly when you step back from the G-Shock myth and look at how watches are actually used in the real world.

Indigo is hands down not better. Love the ironman btw, but aside from that, I have used both my G-Shock, and some Timexes that I sold or gifted on, on some DofE expeditions, and from my way of looking at it, every single Casio has been nicer to read at night, has better viewing angle and also fits better. Some of that may come down to personal preference, but from the field testing (if you can even call it that) I've done with different watches, Casio came out atop timex. Ironically, the one that I felt was best was a cheap Celsius 9 I got off eBay for 12 quid. So hey ho 🤣
