Straps, Straps, Straps

Hey Watch Crunchers,

TGIF!

I am new to swapping watch straps, I tend to stick to whatever the watch came with originally.

But I thought it would be good to create a thread of straps retailers that our community thinks offer great value that can serve as a useful guide for those of us who are looking to change our watch’s straps to boost versality and inject something new to our favorite watches.

To get things started, I’d say Uncle Straps (formerly Uncle Seiko) is right up there. They make high quality (and reasonably priced) 3rd party straps for Seiko, Omega, Hamilton and certain other brands. For those of you looking for a Sinn 556 but can’t stomach paying $500 for a bracelet, Uncle makes a bracelet for the Sinn. Could be interesting to check it out.

Anyone have any experience with Barton or Archer straps on Amazon?

Special thanks to Watch Gecko for the pic above.

P.S. Cheers if you get the title’s reference 🍻

I've purchased a ton of stuff from Barton. And Mrs. SolidYetti swears by them, and TBH outside of the Tropic 2.0, most of my purchases have been for her.

They have a main website too.

Based out of Dallas, offer great value. And they ship two lengths with their Tropic 2.0 quick release which is always a boon.

·

I'd also add for some on my list, there is a rather spicy price difference.

There is a point of finishing returns, and I'd personally argue right around the $35-$50-ish dollar mark seems to be the cutoff/intersection of value, ruggedness, sewing, color, material, and style. This would apply to nylon based stuff.

This excludes leather single pass, since a good horse butt, rugged leather strap that holds up to sweat, water, and abuse, is more expensive BEFORE you add sewing, stamping, etc.

I thought it would be good to create a thread of straps retailers

You are far from the first member to think this thought, but I can't blame you for starting another thread. The site's search function is so poor that finding those earlier threads (and there are at least half a dozen) is nigh on impossible.

Uncle Straps makes great bracelets. I also highly recommend Strapsco. Their new Sailcloth straps are awesome quality and a great price with the buy 2, get 1 free discount.

Hey Stephen, sorry about that! I should have searched past threads first.

Hey SolidYetti,

Thanks so much for providing such a solid list of strap providers. I also appreciate you sharing your (and Mrs SolidYetti’s) preferences. These are exactly what I was hoping for, well thought out sharing of our experiences. As watch enthusiasts, we’re a bit more particular about how straps feel vs the typical person.

Cheers bud!

I’ve seen their ads on Instagram, good to see a fellow Watch Cruncher approves of StrapsCo :). Great looking Ranger btw!

Exactly, swatching swaps can change how a watch looks so much that it’s almost like having a new watch. Thanks for sharing some options Caspar!

Hey Robert, I haven’t tried nato straps as I don’t like the bulk they usually add to watches. I remember seeing zero-pass straps from one of Max’ reviews. I’ll check it out. 🍻

No. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to complain about your post. The problem is that the site search is useless. I tried to search for the older threads myself and came up empty. And I personally commented on at least two of them:)

No big deal :). Love your Orient Star btw, I have found most of the Orient Stars I’ve come across are rather busy/sophisticated which is not my style. But your 3-handed, explorer-style + dressy dauphine hands looks extremely clean.

Holy hell, that is quite the strap collection. Are those arranged by size? So the first pouch is 18mm, the other is 20 and the last is 22?

Agree with a lot of the comments especially, “straps are the best way to avoid spending money on watches”. When I’m getting bored with a watch I change the strap and voila, my interest in them is rejuvenated. I’m kind of addicted to straps now.

Wore my beater on its oyster bracelet for years then saw an add for Daluca straps (2015) and saw all these watches (Speedy, Submariner, GMT) on leather, nylon, and rubber straps. I thought they looked really cool. So I’ve had most of my watches on straps since then.

I bought a few from Daluca and they’re well made. I’d like to get their custom leather straps made of old Swiss and French Army ammo pouches but they’re a bit too expensive. I’d also maybe get a curved rubber strap from Everest but again a bit too much. Other than Daluca I’ve gotten straps (prices ranging from $20-120, but mostly in the $30–50) from:

2. Threaded Leather

3. House of Staps

4. Crown and Buckle (decent NATO straps)

5. Strapsco (not the best, threading has come undone with like 5 of 12 straps I’ve bought from them, but they are cheap and they always have buy 2 get 3rd free)

6. Archer (good value)

I was tired of switching from leather to rubber if I wanted to take a dip in the pool so I looked in sailcloth straps and got some nice ones from

7. Finwatchstraps, nice sailcloth with deployant clasp (took forever, will use DHL next time instead of free shipping)

8. ZuluDiver (I got their Octopod system too, comfy and with the usual bulky excess but a bit of a chore to change.

I’m into epsom leather straps as of late , it looks more water resistant than calfskin, horween, or Italian leather. I’ve gotten some nice epsom straps from:

9. Sartoriale watch straps (Canada)

10. Strap Habit (family owned in Columbus, Ohio)

Both are on WC.

More than half of the straps are quick change and since I found them I won’t buy any other kind. I don’t have it well organized, just 22 and 20mm. 🤪

I use TUNS for my leather straps and they’re quality straps without breaking the bank. They’re based in Vietnam and, to my knowledge, make every strap to order. They also can put your initials on the back of the strap without any additional charges and will give you a discount if you buy multiple straps. If you don’t mind waiting as it takes a while for them to make the straps, ship it, clear customs, and then delivered, they are the best bang for your buck. I have the Maya Brown Leather strap on my Hamilton and also have a Rally Maya Pine Green Racing Strap from TUNS.
