I have the new Rolex Explorer. I’m used to the jubilee on my Datejust and can’t get comfortable with the Oyster bracelet. ( first world problem I know)
And are your diamond shoes too tight? Just kidding, I'd love to have your problem. I personally think Explorers look very cool on a canvas sand coloured NATO. But it changes the aesthetic and makes it a bit more casual (and fitting to the explorer name).
Being 19mm width you might to find a bit harder to find NATOs, but there are some out there, or use curved spring bars. Here some examples of 19mm straps, 20mm NATOs and a nice solution a 19mm paratrooper strap (the first one).
I recently saw an Explorer on an Olive NATO in person for the first time the other week and it made me feel things no other watch has made me feel. Read the Emperor's lips
The explorer should also work on a rubber strap, and these you can get at 19mm. Theoretically, the Explorer should be the right kind of watch when you hastily cross mountain streams while the Abominable Snowman is pursuing your expedition, and a rubber strap is just right for this memorable occasion.
These look really good I have to say... I have often wondered with 3rd party options, with the new case dimensions I have read that the lug holes are drilled particularly close to the case... Have you experienced any issues with straps? Particularly rubbing against the inside of the case, etc...

Yes, had some issues so I finally opted for heavy duty curved spring bars and rather thin and flexible high quality leather strap. My options are, as I have tried, Watchgecko Simple Italian Leather and Bulang and Sons (oh the olive 19mm one...!!!). Tomorrow hope to receive a 19mm ColaReb in dark brown. We'll see.

A list of compatible straps for the new Explorer 1 would be a great separate thread, and resource for the WC community I reckon 😀
I think it's worth a shot, and I also second canvas and leather as excellent options! And if you want something really comfortable, I'd recommend a strap from Erika's Originals.
I have the 36mm Explorer I as well. The bracelet is so well made it's hard to take it off. I feel like I am setting a big piece of the watch aside. Having said that, the taper does drop a lot at the clasp. It's far superior to any Datejust prneven my Explorer II stamped metal clasp. A band swap just works so well with the watch. So many great options in this thread

Leather and Canvas also can work. The Explorer is super versatile

Here a 20mm Tropic strap.
19 leather from Watchgecko. Very comfortable.
20mm Zuludiver NATO.

That’s a great look on canvas! 👏👏👏
An awesome Bulang & Sons green olive 19mm strap:
And a 19mm Zuludiver black NATO:
That’s one of those “fancy” watches that I think was actually meant to be on canvas or a nato. Also, as always,
considering the explorer is on the field watch genre i think it fits perfectly with nato, zulu, etc

throw it on a Jubilee that would look sickkk 👍👍
NATO is hit or miss, on a Rolex it might make it feel “cheap”
