I hate this

Social status for Watch Enthusiasts. I dont mind people buying luxury, at all but to subject all consumers to a social hierarchy is evil. Maybe im taking it to seriously. But this hobby is about the love of watches not how much a watch can indicate your level of wealth. Maybe im mad because All I can afford is the Quasi luxury 😭🤣

Watch hierarchy is a social construct.

·

A tier lost that puts Ralph Lauren watches in “Luxury” and the machine-assembled by the millions Rolex in “High-End Luxury” doesn’t deserve many more seconds of my time.

Also, we’ve grown accostumed to talk about Luxury as a concept in WC, and it’s always lead to interesting conversations about what is luxury and what is not. But what the heck is quasi-luxury?

·

There is hierarchy everywhere in life. Houses, cars, appliances, jewelry, jobs, clothing. It’s just a part of society. We are all lucky to have the privilege of this hobby, regardless of our purchasing tier. Just my opinion 😉👍

·

These lists/rankings have been around for years and are best ignored.

·

Anyone can make up one of these, with their own inherent biases and lack of knowledge (as pointed out by others, above)

It's all tosh, only good to laugh at!

·

No list will ever be perfect when it’s subjective and numbers aren’t involved (ex. Who’s the greatest basketball player Michael or Lebron). That being said it does have some misses but generally it’s on point. Only reason to be mad is if your favorite watch brand isn’t in the tier your thought.

·

Well, I guess I'm a "Consumer" then! LOL!!

I've been called far worse, by better than whomever made up that ridiculous list! 😉

·

That whole list is a joke. I needed a good laugh, thanks for sharing. 🤣

·

I see names that should not appear alongside watchmaking masters. It's like saying that BadBunny is on par with M.Jackson

I bet some stupid social media influencer made this list.

I wonder if all they (whoever made the list) did was to categorize the brands based on their lowest costing products. I don't think this takes into account anything other than that really. So... why are we offended? The labels? Would it had been more acceptable if they went: Very Affordable, Affordable, Not-so-Affordable, Expensive, Very Expensive, Ridiculously Expensive, Billionaire's Club?

I actually wouldn't be offended if they made a tier list of prices.

The wording used for this is specifically bad and biased.

The word luxury does carry a lot of baggage.

·

I'm full invested in the enthusiast / quasi - luxury bracket. No interest in "entry level" so I'll just stick where I am and maybe look at something "luxury" for a big birthday or something

I look at these as more of a construct of how these brands want to position themselves rather than the audiences personas they are trying to appeal to.

Agreed. I have dozens of watches. Quite a few are in the 5 figure range but I have plenty that are below $500. They all hold a special place in my collection. Often I find myself gravitating to the less expensive models. The thing about this hobby is price, in my experience, has little to do with quality. I’m not a watch mechanic so I can’t speak to all the nuances of the different movements. But I like my Doxa Sub200 just as much as my Rolex Submariner. They both work great, reliable, and they both feel like quality made watches. The only thing that makes the Rolex over $10k and the Doxa below $1k is the name on the dial. Just my opinion. I’m not an expert. Just a guy that has expensive and “cheap” watches and see little difference in quality and wearability.

Now we all know that was a bad example. We all know Michael is the best. Hahaha 😂

·

Yeh don't worry about this my friend, they put hublot and rolex in high end luxury, and not Grand Seiko,it's very wrong 🤣😂🙄

·

This statement puts you in the perfect place, Watch Crunch. Sure you will see big money watches here but you will also see cheap ones too. You will see all tiers of watches here. And a great thing here, the people with the big money ones don't rub it in. They like to share. They share their experiences getting them. Their life's journey to get them. Their excitement of achieving their goals to get them. Then when you meet them in person they say "Here, try it on! Wear it around a little while." The people here are great. Welcome to the Crunch.

I know where this is from

Eh, I think people who feel the need to categorize and put things in boxes are missing the point but to each their own, gotta derive pride from something

·

Maybe an algorithm established this list? IMHO, it’s incredibly misleading and erroneous.

·

Ralph Lauren above Tudor? I think I know who created this list … LOL

·

Anybody can buy any watch they like. There’s no categorization for people based on the watch they choose to wear. Wear what YOU like!👍🏻

Have you looked at Ralph Lauren watches?

I sure have, and not because something is expensive it means it’s a luxury product. Their “RL200 caliber” is a Sellita SW300. The “Luxury” category is in this list populated by Omega, IWC, Bvlgari, GS, Zenith, they all manufacture their own movements in-house and you pay for this. For me there’s really no point in comparing Ralph Lauren to these heavy hitters, no matter how many zeroes does the Ralph Lauren carry on its price.
