My First San Martin Has Arrived!

This is not my first Chinese watch, but it is my first San Martin. I am on an exchange in China and wanted to get this watch during my exchange even before I came here, so I finally ordered one.

I received it today and it has been on my wrist since I got it, mostly.

I cannot comment on the movement accuracy yet, but I do have some impressions of the watch itself.

Design

As a whole, I'm very happy with the way it looks. It's a watch I have wanted for a long time due to its design, so that's not really a surprise to me.

The only real surprise are the applied indices. In videos and photos that I have seen, they didn't look that great, but in person they look really good, so I'm quite glad that I chose to go with this option.

Comfort

I have seen posts online of people having some comfort issues with the sharp edges on the watch. So far I have not had any such problems and find the watch comfortable, though the sharp edges are there regardless.

Build quality and finishing

Feels solid. No loose parts or anything like that. Everything is put together well.

Alignment is also very solid across the board. The bracelet and case fit very well, but not totally perfectly. The indices are also aligned really well, though the number 12 being a bit strange makes it seem uneven even though it is aligned fine.

Finishing is also good. The quality is good, though it's not very flashy. The brushing is consistent in one part and the transition between finishes is very sharp. The glossy finish is fine, though many of my other watches with more prominent glossy parts have better finishing there. On this one the gloss feels a bit less clear in terms of reflections.

I have also seen a mention of some grime and such on the hands, but mine seem perfectly fine, though the edges of the hands are not perfectly smooth in all spots (though my Nomos is my only watch that I can strictly call better than this in terms of the hand quality).

Quality of dial printing is also fine, but nothing special.

Overall satisfied.

Movement

Nh35. Can't comment on accuracy yet. Nothing special, but a very solid movement regardless. There is a ghost date. Not a big issue for me, but a minor negative regardless.

Crystal

Domed sapphire (don't have my tester with me, though, so can't verify 100%). Doming quality is noticeably worse than on my Nomos, though. There's also AR, which is fine, but nothing special.

Bracelet

Good bracelet as a whole. The screw-in pins are smaller on one side so the direction is easy to tell and the adjustment process is nice.

Adjusts well enough to my 16cm wrist, but there is not much room left to make it smaller, so if your wrist is significantly smaller than that, it might not fit. Links are also very big.

Clasp is also nice with a good mechanism, but feels oddly large for a watch of this size. It's a standard San Martin one, but a smaller one might have fit this watch better.

Conclusion

My impressions so far are very positive. Now I just hope that the accuracy is good and that most of all, it's fast rather than slow.

Great looking watch and great review. I love my SM. They make super solid watches for the money IMHO.

I've owned that watch for several months and I really do like it. What made me go for it was the high polished applied indices. I think they make the watch. Very comfortable on my 7.5 inch wrist too.
