Influencing Each Other (Friends, What Else Are They For?)
My friend was never into watches. In fact, he would assure me that they're a nuisance, he doesn't like anything on his wrist. Like any good friend I ignored that and got him a watch as a present: the Swatch Blue Grid.
It wasn't a perfect watch but he grew a liking to it. So much that he actually started collecting a few pieces on his own. A Timex beater, an homage watch, the Samsung Gear... Fast forward a few years and he's talking about getting a new watch. An expensive watch - he asks if he should get a Rolex or if he should get the new Carrera Glassbox.
Now, I was never a car guy. I've been lucky to have lived in cities with good public transport. BMW meant Bus Metro and Walking to me. The friend above, however, is into cars. And he's been influencing me to get a nice car (in the future when my finances stabilize, I guess).
So it was a no brainer for me. Yes, a Rolex is a safe choice. But the new Glassbox was pretty much my friend's wishes of a luxury watch in physical form. And besides, those in the know will know how awesome the new Carrera is.
And we have a happy customer. I'm very proud and happy that we both have come to a point in life where we are able to talk about and share these experiences with each other. But now I'm left here pondering if I want to add a racing chrono to my collection too.
I mean 42mm with 52mm L2L is a pretty big watch... and it's pretty dressy... and I do want to get a nice boxster someday too...

Glassbox Carreras look amazing. I also enjoy new Chopard Mille Miglia which is a racing inspired chrono as well. If I had money now - would be a tough choice…

Well 2 things really.
I’m not sure it would suit my style. I was just imagining what I’d wear it with and blue isn’t my colour.
And just generally not looking to buy at the moment. There’s others on the hotlist ahead and this Carrera would have been a real impulse buy.

Just wanted to add - I popped into a TAG boutique today (wife was shopping) and the SA offered it to me with £600 discount pretty much immediately after I said I thought it was a beautiful . I’m sure I could have haggled him down further if I was prepared to buy. So if you haven’t already bought it, make sure you do!

Ooh nice! I did tell my friend to ask for a dc, unfortunately they did not give any. He got a travel case and an extra strap though!
