Addiesdive Pilot Diver - A Day on the Wrist Review

Addiesdive, if known at all, is an brand dedicated to homaging dive watches from Seiko to Rolex. I should say was - they have been branching out the types of watches they are homaging, and also have been releasing more unique designs too.

The Pilot Diver draws its inspiration from the fliger A types of the yesteryears, and slapped on it is a whopping 200m WR. At a glance it's just your typical type A fliger with a date window at the 3 o'clock position.

The watch is very svelte for a sports watch, coming in at 39mm, thickness of about 12.5mm, with lug to lug of 49mm. The lugs are thin and elongated, which contributes to the elegant feel for the watch - much like the watch it is homaging (I assume the IWC Pilot Watch). The case is brushed... well enough. The watch also has a svelte signed crown to complete the look.

What unfortunately stood out to me on the dial, however, were the green markers. In the pictures on Amazon, they looked less lime green, more light green. They were green enough for my toddler to shout out "GREEN WATCH" as soon as he saw it.

I think if the green were less prominently featured, such as for the 12/3/6/9 markers, and perhaps the hands, it'd have been less of an issue for me. However it was just too much and I could not look past it. I'd take faux patina over it (I think. I don't have any watches with faux patina).

Another thing really bugged me were the end links- they have a grooving that's meant to look like the thinner parts of the 5-link bracelet. In reality it looks very cheap. In pictures they look alright.

What I got from this watch were a few things - one, I would love to add an IWC Pilot to my collection. The 39mm sports watch wore surprisingly well, and I loved the design sans colour scheme. Two, I really do not like green lume indices, I'll take less lume any day. So in a way, I know I'll definitely not like Tudor's new Ranger.

The watch does look kinda nice now that I see it again... anyway.

The last point I wanted to touch upon is Addiesdive's logo. Of all the Chinese watch companies, I think they have the best logo and font for their brand. Does it fit a pilot watch? Not really. But if a non-watch person saw it, I don't think they would notice the disconnect.

All in all, it seems like a great watch. I think for those wanting to try a flieger style watch, this is it. Just not one for me.
