Moonswatch, Hit or Miss?

I love the design of the moon watch but in my current situation, I could never afford one. I already have a number of microbrand watches but I think this is a gorgeous entry-level piece. Should I try to get one tomorrow or spend my money elsewhere?

I think one thing to remember with Swatch (or many other lower costing watches) is that they are often non-serviceable, and servicing one would probably cost the same as buying a new one anyway.

If you like it, definitely go for it! I think if you're able to get it tomorrow it'd be a (hopefully) fun memory attached to the watch as well. If you can't get it tomorrow (or sometime in the near future), it's going to be available online in the future!

Right on man, thanks for the reply. What did you feel about the quality of the piece?

The fun memory will be worth more than the watch In due time. Thanks for the reply!!

Can you sell one or more of your other watches so you won't feel that guilty buying the Swatch?

Even if you don't want to sell any of your watches and you can afford the Swatch I'd say go for it. If you don't feel it or you don't like that much or have a buyers remorse in a couple of days you can always resell it and you won't lose much if any. You might be able to make some money.

Have no idea what the MoonSwatch is like, and I only have experience with their Irony (steel) pieces, so I can't say what the BioCeramic is like. The ones I did handle were I believe, on par with low end Seikos. Just not serviceable.

I haven't held one in hand so this is entirely speculation, but I expect build quality to be comparable to Seiko 5 or entry level Orient. However, I also think that they look pretty darn good. Would probably be fun to wear to the beach, on hikes, or around the house. For style I think there are better pieces out there for the price, but for fun it seems like a great deal. I wouldn't line up for one in store though, since Swatch says they're going to release online

·

I’d wait for them to be readily available, but go for it! It’s going to be decent but not ridiculously high quality. It’s collectible. It likely won’t go down much if at all in value. It’s the rare type of inexpensive piece that could easily stay in your collection as a memento forever.

Quartz watches almost never really need service. By the time it does, you’ll have gotten more than its price in enjoyment out of it, and you’ll still probably like it as a non-working piece in your drawer for the memories you associate with it.

·

If you like it - just wait for them to be come available in stores, or when it is less crowded to try it on wrist. See which one speaks to you. Then buy it online.

For the price, it is awfully good fun. But key is it speaks to you first.

And I agree - Swatches don't last. I have had two Sistem51s die on me already. But I'm keeping one out of sentimental reasons.

Totally agree, a fun weekend watch.

The only reason I’m lining up is because I haven’t gone to Vancouver since moving to BC and im making a day trip out of it where the watch is only a small part and a morning plan.

I might even remove the battery when I have it sitting in the box in that case😂

That sounds like an excellent plan! Part of the reason I'm not bothered is that I don't live near anywhere near a Swatch boutique. Best of luck!

Haha the queue on opening day has been nuts! But otherwise go for it!

Living on the west coast, I still have another 12 hours until it opens. I’m worried haha

Fortunately or unfortunately, I am not a fan of this 3-subdial arrangement where they are equidistant from each other. On any watch, not just this.

·

If you like it, can afford it and it’s available then buy it.

if there’s any “no’s” to the above then probably not.

I like it but I’m not you, so in this instance, my opinion is of little to no value to you I’m afraid

·

Def a hit. Crazy how mad it all got. But the idea is great. Make an exeptional design enjoyable for almost everyone.

I would recommend it to anyone that can fit it on their rist.

Ha same with me. They will be available soon for 250€ again. Did you see some videos where the ink is coming off the watches. Not good 😐
