Buy used. Paid £500 for my green Willard from eBay. 😉👍

·

I like the Baltic Aquascaphe and the Certina DS action, both divers under 1000€

Is it right that the powermatic 80 basically can’t be serviced because it’s got plastic parts??

·

Value means it checks all boxes at a decent price point. Mid-last year it was only $280 on Amazon US's site. AR coated, sapphire glass front/back, 41mm auto, titanium case, and 200 m depth rating.

Helm Komodo. $295US. ISO certified. Robust case, movement, etc. Fantastic Lume, comes with a stainless bracelet AND strap of choice.

Unique dial/colors.

Hmmm. If you need a dressy option, I'd go with the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium.

If has to be more utilitarian, a Hamilton Khaki Field Auto 38mm.

Both have a Powermatic 80, just the Tissot has the C07.811 variant with the Silicium antimagnetic hairspring, while the Hamilton has a C07.611 with a Nivachron hairspring. However, unless you work with strong magnetic fields, even Nivachron is very unlikely to be affected. Also, both are rated water-resistant to 100m.

If it has to be a diver, I can get along with the Certina DS Action Diver 38 suggestion. Like the Hammy, it has the ETA C07.611 with Nivachron.

I’m also interested to know the answer. I know the same thing but from someone that’s not a watch expert, so I can’t 100% trust that info. Anyway, the PRX has something that I don’t like, don’t know what, that it keeps me away from owning one. Maybe it’s too much Genta, too much VC 222 and others… for me, in the end, it incorporates something that it’s way too much nothing like those. 🙂 (if you get the topic)

No. It is not, never has been and never will be right.

I've had a "hi-tech escapement" COSC PM80 fully serviced, regulated and repaired (helicopter rotor) by an independent watchmaker.

Hamilton khaki auto divers, tissot 1938 or prx line, seiko alpinist line

Timex, in the sale, off the website, with a voucher

It will be serviced like a Tudor movement: Switched Out.

Thanks guys for this interestic disscusion!

·

I would say the Mido 200C…but they had a price increase since I bought mine.

·

PRX. Different sizes, dials, etc. Hard to beat in my mind.

·

Squale a historic and respected dive watch brand from the late 50’s to today they also made cases for brands from Tag Heuer to Blancpain. They make excellent dive watches from the mid $900 to $3k. Below is the Squale Militaire 1521-026-MIL-B which sells for around $975 on their Tropic style strap and for a little over $1k on a Milanese bracelet.

Having finally seen some Baltic in person, I think they leave a lot to be desired. I think a Certina is probably hard to beat below a grand

I never experienced Certina as a brand but I like their design. I bought and offered a Baltic dual-crown Aquascaphe to a friend and wished I kept it for myself 🤷‍♂️

·

I like retro. I suggest the Lorier Neptune.

·

Lots to choose from in the Mido, Hamilton, tissot, certina swatch groupings. Or could go with an independent like oris or Christopher ward. But up and down the line up for the money I feel longines may offer the best over all value for dollar. But that may be above the price range you’re looking for.

Just the last word in tough do I all watches. I’ve got the same Combat Sub… nearly every other watch went to the closet box🫤

Definitely. I’ve been around the block in this bracket and had to scroll down to ensure this was flagged.

My choice by some margin … and all for well south of $300!

Excelent and clever choice my friend
