Calendar day 5 of 24 ๐ It's one of the most recognizable watches outside the luxury sphere. A unique and functional toolwatch from a big historic brand that moves untold units every year and are behind one of the most durable and low maintenance movements available to gen pop.
Is this just a cult classic? Or a real competitor for horological status?
This watch is like an inside joke I don't get ๐คทโโ๏ธ
It's just funky and cool looking? This is one of the watches I've spotted and when I sparked a conversation it turned out that the guy wasn't a watchnerd like I was SURE he was. He just bought himself a cool watch I guess. Citizen sells lots and lots of watches to muggles.
I'm all about practicality over looks but this watch just looks stupid because there's a more practical way to fit all those features in.. In my humble onion.

Maybe now. But when it was designed there where only worse versions from fancy swiss companies trying to solve this issue. I think you are being a bit overly critical?

You asked if it's a competitor etc. I answered with my opinion.
I guess if it was the whole Promaster Diver series by Citizen it would have definitely finish up in the Classic category. But this exact one? I don't know. I would vote typical Promaster BN0151 or Orca higher than that one. So for me - of no relevance.
Classic, in the sense that the only ones who'd line up for one is the hard techbois watch nerd (or watch hardos as David Portnoy said) and muggles who think it must have been the bees knees.ย
I want one. With it I could play Black Ranger every day day with my henshin item.
This was the one watch I dreamed about when I was a kid (late 80s, early 90s). Unfortunately it was too expensive and hard to find in Brazil and I ended up buying a Casio.

Now or when you were a kid? Looks more recent. Very cool anyways ๐
Agree on the sentiment about this being a nerdy watch for Muggles. Iโve worked with 2 people at 2 different places doing 2 completely different things when I was in school.. both who wore an Aqualand. I wore an Eco-Zilla at the time and always thought about upgrading when I saw these.ย
I think they are really cool ๐ But I hate having stuff and functions I have no need for. So the depth gauge would probably irritate me.. I diving bezel is useful at leastย
We need a choice for "meh." Nothing wrong with it, but nothing to write home about either. I don't know about overrated, seeing I had never heard of it until now.ย
Citizen Aqualand Promaster was a classic of the late 80s, it was very popular on the European beaches at that time especially the gold bezel version or the stealth black version, I traveled up the eastern coast of Australia and through Asia in the early 90s and many Dive instructor would want the more modern style Aqualand over the cheaper Sieko dive watches of that era.
A good condition vintage one is very sought after especially with the Italy collectors. dare I say they look good on a vintage leather strap.

It's cool but not a watch I could wear.

Could or would ๐?
I have never seen this watch before in my life.ย

As a competitor for a spot in horological history or potential history?ย

Ah okay.ย

Oh good, I was afraid that I was the only one. I'm going to google this to verify that it is a real thing.

I have and love a different AquaLand.ย

You can spot a Citizen from a mile away sometimes. This has more in common with the Nighthawk maybe? Stylewise?

Unsure, a tad less busy than a Nighthawk and more of a diver vibe. ย However, I agree the Citizen tool watches are rather distinctive.
None of the above? Never seen it before so not qualified to judge really. It does look odd though?

Oh, my sweet naive boy! You have lived a sheltered life ๐คญ
Quite possibly! I have three citizens but never heard of this? I'm a fairly new boy though!
Citizen has some crazy stuff. Thatโs why I like them.
I'm at "classic" on the ani-digi Promaster line. ย
Not an expert, but was anyone else doing this in the mid 80s?
I voted classic, mostly because I believe it was one of the early depth gauge dive watches and was apparently popular with actual divers.ย

Seiko with the Arnie are one of the well known examples ๐ย

Nonono... Just an ana-digi from the same era ๐
