We need a choice for "meh." Nothing wrong with it, but nothing to write home about either. I don't know about overrated, seeing I had never heard of it until now.
A Casioak, or three hand quartz watches are novel? Yes, I find the Yes watch novel and cool. No, I don't need the complication. And no, I don't need a wristwatch either. After all, I have my phone to tell me the time, as you point out.
Actually, I did find an Android app that does the almost the same thing, and shows the data in the same way. It does make me think twice, but I'm drawn to the watch anyway.
commented onRolex is a godsend to the watch industry. Are you thankful to Rolex for the watch on your wrist? Or are you a churlish ingrate?·
You could say that rising waters raises all boats, and to the extent that Rolex drove growth in watch market, that growth benefited Grand Seiko etc. On the other hand, was growth in the watch market driven by growth in luxury goods overall, which did grow in an host of categories in recent years? In which case Rolex as the biggest brand was the biggest beneficiary of growth already happening. Other brands in other products have also experienced similar hype and overheated demand. It's a chicken or egg argument, or which is the cause and which is the effect. Or it could be a little of both or go both ways. But in any case, I don't know that we have to bow down to the great and mighty Rolex.
And in the case of Grand Seiko, you yourself @HotWatchChick69 pointed out some time back that GS's market share in the United States went from a sliver to number 5 over the course of a few short years, leapfrogging over a bunch of luxury watch brands. So Grand Seiko's growth is not just due to space created by Rolex, or by a growing luxury good market, but due to marketing prowess of their very own.
As an aside, the New York Horological Society lecture tonight is about the quartz crisis, and they say in so many words, "Note from the lecturer: Wear a Swatch if you have one!" There's still time to register, in person or online, if your interested.

AliExpress had knockoff Combi bracelets starting at around $8, no modding necessary. I don't know how they compare to the real thing, but for the price, may be worth a shot.
My G-Shock square came on a Combi bracelet, and I like it a lot. I've since upgraded to a metal case and bracelet mod, and I like it even better.
I'm looking for bracelet that will work on a metal CasiOak. The Combi bracelet for the square fits, but the end links don't fit tightly, so I don't trust it. AliExpress has metal bracelets for the CasiOak, but I'm not sure I trust that they'll fit properly.
