A Man and his Watch โŒš

I sold my last "excessive" watch today! Keep in mind that it's gonna be replaced with a proper backup watch, the Seiko sne569p1.

But I was thinking about about a man and his watch today. No, not myself. The book. The most recommended watch book ever and photo prop in 90% of all watch photos on the internet.

I have not read the book but I think I have a pretty good understanding of the layout and content. It's about people that have done special things and the roles their watches have played or the relationship they have/had with the watch.

It's by far one of the most popular watch books. And let's just agree that it wouldn't be as fascinating if it was about random watches in a watchbox that sometime got some wrist time by watchnerds that spends way to much time arguing about the popular topic of the day on a forum.

And there may good reasons for that? Just some friendly fire for the doubters and naysayers to my glorious "1" watch project ๐Ÿ˜› Even though I doubt there will be written any books about me ๐Ÿ˜Š

Yeah, it's a good book (got it from my better half for Christmas) but the best I've got and would recommend over it as it's far more interesting is the Omega Lifestyle museum magazine.

A man & his watch is more a book that looks good on the shelf rather than a source of knowledge. Pretty pics and stories, but once it's been read that's it. Whereas the Omega magazine is crammed full of information and high quality pics that can be reread many times and used for reference.

TLDR- an ok book that's more style over substance imho

Thanks for putting that book on my radar, it sounds like an interesting read and has a solid 5-star rating on Amazon. Perhaps I'll get it as a gift for Christmas, since I just put it on my shared wish list. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Not much of a book to be honest. Read it, looked st it, sold it

I think it's good, but can't garantee it. I think it's mostly a coffee table kinda book. Isn't it what they call it when it's structured such that it is nice to read on the toilet ๐Ÿค”

A man and his watch talks about a particular watch in some cases. Some of those people in the book do have more than one watch ๐Ÿ˜‰

I applaud your commitment though. I still think everyone could use a resin watch of some sort. Metal and sapphire don't always suit. In the old "I only have one watch at a time" days people would solve this by taking off their watch at times...we don't want to do that do we??!!

ยท

It's the people and what they do, and represent, that make these watch stories so compelling.

It wouldn't matter what they had on their wrist, whether it was just the one they happened choose that day from their collection of 50+... or if it was their 1 watch... a cool story is a cool story.

An awesome life can be lived with one watch, or 100.

Good luck on your one watch quest! ๐Ÿป

I'm just poking fun of course ๐Ÿ˜Š But still, nobody cares about the 99watches that stayed at home. So I think there is a point in there somewhere.

I need to find good reasons to stay faithful.. Because I got 99 reasons to have a 100 watch collection ๐Ÿ˜œ

Walk around naked ๐Ÿ˜ฑ How embarrassing!!

I realize that the amount of watches you own has little to do with anything beyond how many watches you own. But that wouldn't be a very controversial statement would it ๐Ÿ˜œ

The point is, that you will be awesome with 1 watch or 50, and I will always be a watchnerd that spends way to much time arguing about the popular topic of the day on a forum. ๐Ÿ˜†

I would absolutely go 1WC if I could! I'd save so much money and time!

You have a toilet next to your coffee table?

While I cannot help you with the book... Thank you for posting about it, definitely will either buy it or put it in the list for fathers' day/birthday/Christmas suggestions.

Iโ€™m scepticalโ€ฆโ€ฆgood luck with that๐Ÿ‘

Thanks for clarifying.

That Tudor looks like a perfect everyday watch. I've been wearing the same watch for 2 weeks. I didn't plan on it, life events just made easy to be a one watch guy for a while.

If I got the history right: Crusaders 1 - Defenders 8. Could be 2 - 7. As said good luck with that๐Ÿ‘

I think you should Google images for coffee table.

It would have been a wonderful World if one Drug cured all diseases and one Antibiotic eradicated all bacteria & viruses! ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ˜‚

The one thing that book did for me was just to wear my watches.

As a watch lover, I love the book! Itโ€™s not necessarily about special people, itโ€™s about the โ€œwhyโ€. It showcases why watches have become special to people and the stories behind them. I got it as a gift but I would have bought it anyway. To me, I love the romantic aspects of watches, the family stories, the gifts, etc. As Christian from Theo & Harris says, โ€œwatches are vessels for memoriesโ€!
