Battle of the japanese divers!

Seiko Skx007 vs Orient Kamasu. I love both of these watches, in fact these two have the most wrist time. Which do you think is better between the two? Let me know your thoughts!

Hi! Being a Seiko fan, I have to admit that the Kamasu looks better. The proportions are great and it has a mure sturdy looks.

I have owned an SKX, 5KX and Kamasu and the Orient diver is hands down the best pick for me.

The Kamasu specs are better all around but especially the crystal, the applied indices and bezel insert font elevate the look instantly. Granted, the 5KX dial is a big upgrade to the SKX in that regard with an applied logo and indices instead of paint. 👍

But more importantly, the Kamasu's case design (shared with Mako and Ray) is way better. It sits low and flat on the wrist, it looks thin thanks to the chamfered edges and it slides under the cuff thanks to its slopped bezel despite being the same thickness. By comparison, the SKX case is a bulbous pillow shape that doesn't hide its thickness well and has a suboptimal gravity center that makes it feel top heavy and wobbly on wrist. It's one of the most iconic Seiko case shape but at the same time it's probably the worst wearing experience of the lineup compared to the Turtle, MM200, Sumo, etc. all hugging the wrist better.

The Orient IMHO, I always find the Seiko dials really quite small as the chapter ring, nice as it is, takes up quite a lot of room but the Orient's just looks a lot more functional to me.

Kamasu.

In terms of specifications alone the kamasu is way ahead.

But...

The 007 is a Diver not the kamasu.

If we ask the same question again in 25 years or 50 years when specs won't matter that much anymore there will be only one winner here.

I own the kamasu and I love it but I do not think it will become an Icon like the 007.

Those are two amazing watches but if i had to only choose one I'd take the Seiko. Some watches are part of hystory and the Seiko Skx is one of them!

I don't own an Orient because I own three Seiko divers (007, 009, and Samurai) so I may be a biased fan boy, but I can't deny that they make some striking pieces.

Just one more watch has a great video about this, and I agree with the results from it.

Depends what you want, style wise. The Seiko looks more old school. The Orient looks like a more up to date watch. That's the real difference, to my mind, and it's a super personal one for people to make.

The SKX007 for me! Purely for sentimental reasons. Specs don’t mean as much to me. This diver is what got me into Seiko watches.

·

After the Gen I Ray/ Mako, I’m guessing orient wins for the movement (now that they no longer need an extra pusher). You can also buy this Orient new for a great price (vs. buying an SKX used for significantly more). Seiko wins for me in the “hands on” department. I have an SKX013 and a Gen 1 Ray. The Seiko feels more solidly built (both are about 12 years old and the Seiko was my daily for 8 years).

They are both great watches. I think the Orient is the better buy. However, they are similar enough that I think it comes down to which feels and looks better to the person wearing it and for me it’s the Seiko.

The Kamasu is very elegant for a diver, almost a GADA. Very good spec.

I vote for Kamasu!

·

Neither is better. They're different, but good. Competition unnecessary.

·

Both great but for me the Kamasu!

·

I had both and I was pleasantly surprise by the Kamasu! Was thinking nothing could beat a seiko at that price range but the Kamasu proved me wrong! :)
