Why, oh why do brands keep on with this integrated bracelets shenanigans?

Certina comes out with a new watch: DS-7. Quite pretty! Except, well, integrated bracelets...

Why, oh why?

Why can't they just put regular bracelets, and let us swap things out? Why must they do this? It's not more comfortable (I have both styles, and integrated bracelets feel exactly the same on the wrist).

Is it just me who hate this trend?

I hate to break it to you, but integrated bracelets were common long before YouTube and "influencers" started paying attention...

My first Citizen back in 2007 had an integrated bracelet, and long before that brands like Tissot, Citizen, Seiko, and Certina were making integrated bracelet watches.

It used to be a rare thing (glaring over at Citizen and their never-will-you-ever-change-this-strap), or by large enough brands who can provide you with options out of the gates (think VC Overseas).

Now, it's like the plague. Everywhere. Even by microbrands! (Glaring over at CWard).

Fair point... it has gotten worse.

They are an evil that cannot be named, they are the Wendol.

Intergrated bracelets can work IMO.

I agree with your sentiment on integrated bracelets. My wrist is pretty unusual, and there are very few bracelets that actually fit well, and I almost always have to put my watches onto an after-market strap to give me some comfort. So while I like the designs, modern integrated bracelets aren't practical for me.

Do I think that all integrated bracelets should be stopped just because they aren't right for me? Absolutely not. Just because I'm different, doesn't mean the whole industry has to bend to my will. Every design is a compromise in one way or another, and no watch is perfect - no matter what the internet pundits pontificate. What's right for others might not be right for me, and that's OK. As long as there is diversity across the industry in general, that's fine.

At first glance I thought these are some new PRX variants. I like the integrated bracelet designs but I have big issue with butterfly clasps. Really hate the feel they catch on to things or start digging in to the wrist.

Some brands do that integrated look while keeping the traditional lugs which is more preferable to swap starps out quickly.

This Seiko quartz model has the integrated bracelet but also keeps the 20mm lugs inside so you can swap it for a normal strap. Timex Q series also have the design language.

·

I don’t mind it. The vast majority of watches use normal bracelets. Imo, the more frustrating thing is so many brands using butterfly clasps on their bracelets, which can make it difficult to get a good fit and are overall just unnecessarily fiddly. The Swiss seem to be the ones that do this the most

Wrong… integrated bracelets were invented in April by an AI bot called Melanie

Agree, hate 'em with a passion.

Really fail to get the reverence for Genta's later designs (I like his early stuff) from the early 1970's on.

Proper Fugly!! 🤢

·

It seems like a fad that made it's way back around. Kind of like Crocs. They were in a fews ago, and now are back. 😬

·

It's just this years fad. Clearly, Royal oak and Nautilus make them popular and therefore imitated. These watches 10 years ago were not that popular, give it ten years, things will have moved on.

·

Integrated bracelets "trending" since the 70's.

To me they have their place. And I enjoy a few.

Best of both worlds is Arken, but they are rare as hens teeth.

And technically, the G Shock is an integrated bracelet watch.....just sayin...🫣🤏🏻.
