'Tis the Season

The holiday season calls for non-sport watches (IMHO). These four will be used in some sort of rotation during the final days of 2023.

What's your watch(es) for the season?

Yikes that's some rotation! I do agree though, I'll be going for a 1952 Omega for Christmas day 👍🏻

Loevhagen - would love your feedback on the watches above. I have the SBGW283 and I love it. It will never leave the collection. I am evaluating adding another GS, and a 44GS case and spring drive are both on my wish list.

That 44Gs you have above (forgive me, I forget the ref) is HIGH on my list. My main question is how much larger does it wear than the 283? When I’ve tried on the 40mm 44 GS models, they’ve always felt / seemed a little big to me.

Beyond that, would just love you take on owning both of those watches in the same collection and what winds up getting more wrist time, pros/cons of each, etc.

Thanks in advance, and beautiful set of pieces!

My vote is for the Grand Seiko 😂

@loevhagen that is spring drive ref? thnx

SBGY011?

No seasonal watches for me. I'm going to enjoy all of my core collection including sport watches this holiday season.

Love your Grand Seiko’s. I wonder though why you have two similar watches. I know the one on the left is about 4K more, SD movement, a different case and more refinement but the similar dials give the same impressions of awesomeness.

Still, amazing selection to choose from in the holiday season.

I'll probably wear my Cellini Prince on Xmas day.

HI. Your SBGW283 is a perfect little gem. I bought mine just recently. The SBGY011 with the modern 44GS case wears bigger than the SBGWxxx due to it's solid case flanks. However, it's not wearing big.

One thing to note is that the alligator strap that comes with the SBGY011 makes the watch feel bigger than it needs to be, since the strap is quite long and the deployant buckle is quite solid compared to a more minimalstic pin buckle.

I have the SBGY011 on the same strap as the SBGWxxx, as I find these strap über comfortable, subtle and slim.

The winding action and sound of the SBGWxxx is more "mechanical" and "coarse" in the sound. The winding action and sound is sublime and just as I like it to be. The SBGY011 is more...refined...with a nice caseback and power reserve. Nice feature to have.

Thanks. It's all relative. My wife would say that all three Grand Seiko in this photo all look the same. I, however find them vastly different. That's why I bought them. The SBGWxxx and the SVGY011 is very different interpretations over the same design ethos within the GS-family of watches.

It's like a Submariner and a GMT Master II. They have the same dial, but are different watches.

What a rotation!!… I have been sporting the Santos lately in a few slightly formal occasions, but still haven’t picked the one for Christmas. Probably something more rugged, since we’re home, doing the cooking and everything!…😅
